Dennis Brydens car is beautiful and the quintisential street rod. Especially with the "hemi" installed...
Is it my imagination that years ago there was a Tudor with an Allison engine that raced the quarter and some salt and was called the "orange Crate"? Deja Vu revisited. (sort of a pun) Fred P

You're right Grump. It was built by Tindle in Portland Oregon. My only claim to fame is that my 27 T was parked next to it at the Eugene car show in about '64 or so. It has been reported that it is stashed in the Seatte area. They made a plastic model of it also. Sure wish I'd taken more pics back then.

I think they sort of went "Orange Crate " crazy out here in the northwest, Back in the late 60s and early 70s there was a was a 47 or 48 Chevy 2dr Sed. called the "Orange Crate" and also a 33 Ford Sed. I know one thing for sure they were all fast for the time.

I think you're right Grump and the others as well. When you get to my age you begin to think that if you had a memory, you'd take it out and play with it! I think this is 2 different cars as the chopped '34 also sounds familiar.
What I DO remember is that the driver sat at the very back and I think his head extended out of the vehicle a bit.It sounds a bit bizzare now but back then it was awesome to say the least. And it was a 1/4 miler.
There was a "Big AL' also and I think that's what started the confusion in my ageing/misaligned brain cells.
Thanks guys! Like I said, if I had a memory.....

Ray, it has and older 90º Chev V-6 229 ci. that has been well built. The 27 is basically from Speedway but it left a lot of leeway as to what you do with it. The rear is a '72 Nova 10 bolt with 3.08 gear. Actually, if I can get Cruzr32 to take a digital pic, it'll be here soon!. Oh yeah, it has sprint car headers and the sound is definately not that of a V-6. If you don't look, it sounds very much like a very nice V-8. Most likely due to it being an odd fire engine...see ya later Fred P

The Allison engined car you are thinking of was a 34 Ford, 2 door chopped to the max. I can't recall the builder but he had a thing for Allisons. He also built an old White cabover truck with an Allison, A BMW Isetta with an Allison. The 34 was named "Big Al", the Isetta was "Alsetta". Wish I could remeber his name. Anyone out there remember his name?
