38 chevy

First I would like to thank all who replied to my questions about my 38 chevy. you all convinced me to abandon the camero idea. I will go with the mustang II front end.

My next question is, what is the best way to get all the surface rust, from good ol' mother nature, to disappear? I will sand blast the frame and I'm getting fiberglass fenders and trunk lid.

Any places to stay away from for the fiberglass stuff?

Thanks again for all the input and answers. This site is great!

Pete

There are several products on the market that can save you a considerable amount of time. I have been reading about a product called ras-o-nil on www.autobodystore.com check out that web site and do a search in the archives of the bulletin board under rust repair or removal and you should come up with a lot of reading.
Suposedly the ras-o-nil will seal the typical barn yard type (heavy) surface rust on a vehicle, then all you have to do is use a filler primer to fill in the craters.
I have not tried it, but the people on that board swear by it. There are several people on that board that are currently doing tests with some of the rust type inhibiters or sealers. I plan on trying it on my next project.
It used to be that you had to take a car to bare metal or the rust would eventually come back through your top coat, but suposedly that is not the case anymore. That would save a ton of work for us guys in the rust belt!
Good luck,
Jim Callaghan

MISTAKE in the last post, first the ras-o-nil, then Epoxy primer, then the filler primers,

Too Funny!!!! I lurk at the autobody board also. As far a Por-15, they say you need to neutralize the rust before you use it. They say that ras-o-nil is good an invention as indoor plumbing over there.
