Ok guys i'm on a roll.
What would you like to see in your goodie bag at shows. Also should the preregister have different thing in there goodie bag than guys that don't preregister?

I know most of the goodie bags have the samethings in it. They were wanting to put together a goodie bag that rodders would lke to see in there.

Any ideas?

I can't tell you the number of times I have helped out a fellow rodder with what I had in my car from the "goodie bags" i.e.- I always like samples of permatex or loctite, as well as hand cleaner in little packets that will fit in my rod's tool box. (And, I have found it's easier to get these as donations from auto supply stores)
We had an idea at our rod run, give a free entry voucher i 1or2 bags for next years rod run. people go nuts over it!!

I don't know but I know what I don't like to see in my goodie bag. Stuff like a coupon for 50 cents off a hot dog at Derwienerschenitel or whatever. Or a calendar from the local bank.

I guess I got in the wrong pew as I posted my thoughts allong with dash plaques, so I'll repeat my self . I'm sick and tired of getting pens pencils notepads and other junk I thought they were supposed to be goody bags . I usually give them back and tell them to give them to someone who needs them, along with coupons that you have to stay over a day or make another trip back to their town. Boy I feel better already. I would say deffinatly Not to amke any prize offerings different for preregisters than non-pre's. Reason, Firday night, I was taking the siginificant other back to her car,(we met at Walmart after work and took only 1 vehicle to eat) and I seen the local rod gathering at a BBQ restraunt as I drove by it. I stopped and looked, wouldve drove all the way home and went back in the 35 if it only ran. So its obivisouly a matter of advertising not getting to everybody! Had I brought a vehicle, why would you make any offerings less to me, than those that got the "word"? What if i had a super nice ride and it made yet another passer-by stop. Wouldve been more business for the BBQ rest, who knows. Im just saying, you shouldnt exclude someone simply cause you cannot get the advertisment to every single person! Just my opnion!

I'm not sure a lot of people realize how much work and planning is involved in putting on a good show and the goody bag is only one small part of the process. We have an annual Father's day show which usually has around 1500 cars show up. It takes a lot of effort to get local businesses to donate items for the goody bags and some of the donations aren't what we would like to see and we don't even put some of the things in. The really good donations we use for door prizes.

We do reward pre-registered entries with an event T-shirt because we want to encourage people to pre-register. We can estimate the total entries based on how many people pre-register (we've been doing this for a 20 yrs). The people that buy swapmeet spaces and have food booths always want to know how many pre-registered entries we have. It helps all of us to plan better.

The club does make some money off the show which is spent on door prizes, paying for the grounds, porta-johns, insurance and many other things. But we've chosen not to spend much on the goody bags. Along with the door prizes we give away a few $100 and $500 cash prizes. For the 15th annual show we built a T-bucket roadster and gave it away (its still running too). We don't get many complaints about what's in the goody bags, but after stuffing 1500 bags the night before we don't really care. We have MANY compliments on how nice the show is tho.

I don't care if I get a goody bag or not . But if there is one I would like something useful, not a bunch of pens pencils and scratch pads . Donate them to a school were the kids can use them. R P DIEGAN

What I would like to see in the goodie bags, especially the big ones where you might be from out of town, is a restaurant list. Of course only listing good ones. We get to a new town and have no idea if a nice looking place has decent food. That can make or break an evening out. Also, my feeling is that if a person makes the extra effort to pre-register they should get alittle extra in their goodie bag. Alot of the shows do a free t-shirt for lets say the first 500 entries or whatever. Or maybe a participant plaque. The Detroit Autorama use to do this. Every entry use to get a very nice 4x7 inch plaque for the wall. This cost could be offset by a sponsor, and of course their name is on the plaque. Goodguys use to do a little 2 1/2 inch square magnet with the logo of the show on it. Love those!

To throw an extra 2 cents, I prefer wall plaques over trophies anyday.

Hi Patrick, Hows it going? Your mentioning the single part here just gave me a great idea for you. Why dont you have a match making link on your site? I'm sure there are lots of single women out there that would love to hook up with a single guy thats into hot rods. Speaking of your site, does Jason know SRS is the first link on your site? I love the look of it. Great job and thanks for the tribute to the 47. Let the family I said "Hi" and we'll chat soon.

Duane; Here are a couple of ideas to kick around. I've got a engraved coffee mug ,that I'm drinking coffee out of right now that I got in a goody bag back in 98. It is etched with a roadster and map of route 66 along with event occassion on it, I love it, use it daily. At another we got a goody bag made out of heavy material that looks like a shopping bag , the wife uses it all the time , it has the event printed on one side and sponsors adds on the other. Although we have received many beautiful throphies we like wall hangers best . One award was a hand made wooden box , made to look like a strong box with a buffalo engraved on the lid. Hope this gives you some ideas. R P

Hi Duane, Here's some of the things that they had donated to them for the goodie bag so far.
1) The went to a silk screen shop. and ask for some stuff. they got some coffee mugs. ( what's on it i don't know)
2) The called Subway headquaters, and they sent 100 coupons for $1.00 off, good at any subway.
3) They put together a street rod crossword puzzle. The one's that fill it out right get a prize.
4) They went to the state department and got some state maps.
5) Pepsi even donated something (think they were key chains)
6) They put a mystery person paper in the bag. The paper give's you hints, where and what to look for. The first person that finds that person wins a prize.

That's just some of the things they told me about.
