Static electricity

OK: It's getting close to show time. Anybody got some ideas on how to keep static electricity down? I used some stuff I got at schucks , but it didn't last very long. The fellow at counter said his dad used it on his plane all the time . It worked but you had to use it every time you wiped off you rod. I'm listen. R P

Is this to stop you getting static shocks when you get out your car and then touch the door to close it and get a whack or to stop dirt clinging to it ?

Gary; It's both . Ilive on a dirt road and by the time I get to the paved road , about 3/4 mile the dust clings to that roadster like bees on honey. Then I dust it off with my calif. duster and if I get near any part of the car ZAPP! , the other day I made the mistake of touching the gas cap, Boy that scared the bejesus out of me . I use the wax shop's slick stuff , but am looking for something that lasts a little longer . I heard there was a product the new car dealers use , but todate have not been able to fiund out what it is. I'm listen. R P

As you exit the car touch somthing metal, so you have a hold on the car as your feet touch the floor, then when you are out the car and touch it again you will not get a whack!, I used to get this, one time I got out my car and as a test I put my finger up to the body and whack! I could actualy see a spark, and you know it hurt more coz I knew it was comin!!!, As for the dirt clinging to the car due to static the only method I know of is to dangle an earth strap which is in contact with the ground but they look real sad, this is similar to the old painters trick of wetting the shop floor then dangling a chain from the frame to the floor to help keep dirt from stickin to the wet paint, I don't know of any miracle creams to fix it though.... Good luck!!

The next time you polish your car try wiping the car off with corn starch, i use to drive a limo and it also take the swirles out of the paint after you have waxed it.

Ahem.
WAY back in the olden days when I used to hang around Monterey and Salinas airports bumming rides and helping to fuel the general aviation planes there were rubber straps that hung down under the fuel trucks to help with just this problem.
We also used to run a ground wire with an aligator clip to the aircraft so there wouldn't be any sparks (not a GOOD thing) while fueling.
I wonder if those rubber, hangy down things we used to see on cars actually did any good.
One could hang one of those down under the chassis, up where it couldn't be seen.
Of course, that's if it worked and all.

I get that zap every time I slide down out of my 99 f-250, it usually wakes me up pretty good on those late night mornings. I've seen these rubber straps with lightning bolts on them hanging of the bumpers of some pimpy cars. I think there are called static straps. Try that Warsharski (not sure of the spelling) everything automotive catalog. ...tip...hide them as far under the car as possible so no one sees them, and deny actually putting them there. say it musta got hung up there while driving.

We've put them on for people in the garage.
They swear by them not for static but for keeping the kids from getting carsick!
Any ideas anyone?

Wonder how many remember when it was cool to protect your upholstery with those clear plastic covers??? It was real cool until the first time you slide out of the car when the humidity was down. You could draw a 3/4 in spark on almost anything....Remember when trucks used to have a small chain dragging behind the bumper and (?) throwing sparks(on a tanker too). About the only way to knock it down some is to use the piece of rubber underneath. I recently discovered that I can roll up behind somone and draw a big yelp when I touch them. It also depends on where you touch them :) Fred P

Ok,
So how come no one has yet suggested...

A really big drier, and a box of bounce sheets?
