PLEASE, pick up this months issue of NSRA Streetscene. Read the article in the Legislative Watch section on PA's new laws, and the stricter enforcement of current laws. I know that alot of people, myself included, turn our heads too often, and let the "other guy" take care of it. BUT, this time it's serious.

I haven't read the article in Street Scene yet but our hobby is very vulnerable to restrictive laws which can stop us in our tracks if we let them. We need an organization much like NRA is to gun owners or AARP is to seniors. A group whose primary purpose is to protect our hobby and lobby against restrictive legislation. If such a group exists, I'm not aware of it.
SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) is about the closest thing I have found. They have a page where you can find out what legislation is pending in your state: http://www.sema.org/trade/fedleg/ . In fact the whole SEMA site has a lot of info and is interesting. They do a good job of informing us of what is going on and providing guidance on how to fight for our interests.
As they say "We are all in this together, from classic car
and late-model enthusiasts, to 4x4 owners, lowriders and street rodders and everyone
in between."

I'm really surprised that the NSRA and GoodGuys havn't steped up to the plate. And even the publishers of the car magazines. I will even go one step further even the aftermarket companies could pitch in.
Without us and our hobby there probably won't be a NSRA and GoodGuys, and you know there wouldn't be that many aftermarket companies.
We also have to do our part too.
Just my 2 cents
Rick

Hot Rod Magazine has run several articles refering to the legislation going on in california. They aave been saying if we don't jump in and do somthing we will all be joining the california restriction laws. California is trying very hard to restrict any car past a certain age.

Maybe you could explain a little bit about the article. Then I might have an opinion.

I am not asking for an opinion, I'm BEGGING for support, not for me, for ALL STREET RODDERS. PLEASE get this months edition in your hands. IT'S important to us ALL. I can't stress that enough, because what's good for the goose, is good for the gander. Your state COULD BE NEXT!!!!!!!!!
Imagine if YOU couldn't get your rod inspected, and thus, couldn't drive it anywhere. Had to trailer it EVERYWHERE!

O'h yea, I forgot to mention all the shows that PA plays host to. What if the NATS East lost half it's PA cars? And they moved the show to say NY? And Carlisle, I don't even want to go there. Seems the state law makers just don't give a crap about the money that our vehicles bring into communities.

Iowa used to have inspection laws they didn't work. There were always people willing to pass cars anyway. Not an opinion a fact.

Just an idea. If we were to write are position and have a spot on the home page to support it. We could then send it as a group with names and email addresses. All states should have gov. web sites.

I cant speak for other states but New Hampshire is pro Street Rod. There is even a special license plate plus reduced inspection requirements.
Thanks to some of the founders of the NHSRA and some well publicized charity events they were able to make a professional and convincing appeal to legislators.
All it takes is hard work and finding a way to get your foot into the door.

Hi Mr. Willys,
Post the PA. representatives, Names and e - mail address or phone #s. We could call them or E - mail them. This is what the NRA does. Yes we must fight the tyranny of Government. A lot of these "BAD" laws are pushed by auto dealers & or Manufactures, They hate to see people fixing old cars. They put BIG BUCKS into there lobby in state capital (government). I would be happy to help.
FOR INTEGRITY, HonestFrank

Have you and others tried contacting your state representatives to inform them that the proposed legislation will destroy hobbiests like yourselves? It could be that they are not car people and have no idea that it will adversely affect businesses, hobbiests, and other law abiding citizens. Get pro-active and contact your representatives. Also, you need to call SEMA and let them know what is happening. They will want to know. Make sure you have the details so they can look into it.
