Speaking of prices...

My girlfriend and I took a ride on the Goldwing to Indianapolis this past weekend, mainly just to take a weekend trip. We figured that we would go to the Super Chevy at Raceway Park. We got there about 2pm Saturday, and the price to get in to the show and swap meet was $20 each. I balked at that price. We finally decided to go in, but were bored with all the cars looking alike. I need variety when I go to a car show. We both figured the best part was the jet engined dragsters on the 1/4 mile track. We didn't buy anything to eat, just the lemon shakeups...$3 a pop, about usual.

When it comes to prices like $16.50 for a hamburger or $20 for a gate fee, I like to think I have principals, but the truth is I'm pure stubborn. When I think someone is going to screw me and they think there is nothing I can do about it, I'll leave the event and drive to the next town if I have to. If someone has an event or a concession and try to make their retirement in one fell swoop, they can do it without me.

If enough people would rebell when prices are clearly exorbitant these people would eventually get the message. As much as I like automotive events, it's getting out of hand when someone spends their hard earned money to try to build a nice car and pays to enter an event so the promoter can charge a big gate to spectators and huge fees to vendors.

Before you get out the cat-o-nine-tails to thrash me, I realize that there are expenses associated with a regional event. They have to recoup those expenses. But when I feel I'm being charge more that the value of the service, I'll decline the invitation.

I know....everyone has an opinion, and that's mine.

PINK ROD, we all get stiffed at just about ANY event we go to. For 2 people to just go to a ball game cost almost $100 and your team might even lose!
Another way to think about it is that we pay someone to put OUR cars on display and this "someone" charges people to come and look at them. If it wasn't for seeing old friends I might not even go.
Probably the only real way is simply "show and shines" or meeting at the Friday nite drive in...At least the food is cheaper!!
A friend once told me that car nuts (and radio nuts) have egos that surpass monetary gain for someone else. He wasn't lying!!! Fred P

It is ridiculous. Everyone has gone insane with pricing. Even movie matinee prices are more than what a regular showing cost a few years ago.
I think, however, that we are reaching a sort of critical mass stage. People have pushed prices for these things so high that attendance in a lot of events has fallen off.
I am not a ports fan, but my kid brother is and he says that the last few times he went to Dodger stadium, the place had only about 2/3 of the normal crowd.
We do need to start boycotting expensive events. Let the promoters know that we just can not keep laying out a hundred bucks for some racing, or a night at the movies.

If you are in Southern CA, you guys may want to check out the Pomona swap meet. Still pretty reasonable at only $7.00 admission.
The swap meet and cars for sale areas are over 15 miles long, and there may be more than 4,000 vehicles for show and/or sale. Even the food prices are reasonable.
For upcoming shows you can go to http://www.pomonaswapmeet.com
The next two are on August 26th and October 14th.
The one on the 14th is the day before my wedding and it is where I am going for my bachleor party.
The bride gets all sorts of gifts in a wedding shower, now the groom can have something too. All the men in my family are going to be getting me street rod parts!
