Does anyone know of a technical trouble shooting site for GM car problems? I have a 2000 sunfire and a 94 bravado that have me really stumped. maybe one of you guys are up on this new stuff and we could get our heads together. Dave

A code scanner is just the tool for diagnosing computer problems with your cars, assuming it`s an electrical problem you are talking about. You can buy em at your napa dealer or borrow them from friends at the dealership.

Thanks, I have one of the best ones (I'm a mechanic) The problem with the Bravada is that it has a digital dash. The speedo doesnt lite up, but the rest does. After putting in a new cluster, same thing. All wireing in dash checks ok. Speedo people say cluster is ok. Im stumped on this one. The pontiac has a new ignition switch installed cuz the old was jammed and wouldnt turn. New one installed and now the ECM wont reprogram to the new key and the car wont start. (no injector pulse). HELP! Dave

Is the key like the Jeep Cherokee? Programmable? If so, go to the dealer to have the key reprogramed. I know that sounds rediculous, But I ran into a simalar problem with a jeep.

This pontiac has Passlock I and your supose to put the key (origanal one) in the ignition. You have a 1 in 10 chace that its right and starts. If not, you turn key to run postion and wait for theif lite to stop blinking and stay on. I do that but the theif light goes out instead of staying on and the car doesnt start. Glad its not mine. I had the same problem with my Z28. Had to put in a new ignition. You have to take the key from the old ignition to the dealer and have them program the new key to match the old one. If you don't have the old key, I heard that they can reprogram the computer to the new key, but you have to take them the entire car.

I bought a Ranger new in '99, and it came with two 'chip' keys. The salesman told me that I should have an extra made, as the partsman needed two original keys to make another. After paying over $40, I went home and read the book...so simple. It just involved puting one key in the ignition, then the other, then the third. What a waste.

I'm a GM tech Dave so if you need any help I'll be glad to lend a hand.
Don't mean to brag but I was a National Champion with GM last year.
Which means I was one of 26 techs in Canada out of 9000 that passed all the required tests.
Got a free trip to Phoenix out of it also!
