LH Lugs

Does anyone know for sure why some manufacturers used LH lugs on the left side of the car, and RH on the right? Am replacing the studs with longer ones on my 53 Stude and am just wondering.

Because the left-handed people work on that side of the car?? LOL. I think that they thought that the wheel moving in that direction would loosen them up if they used rh thread. Anyway...that's what I was told.

Yeah I agree with Yeoman, Use RH on both sides of your car. Other wise one day you'll just brake off one of the LH studs by turning it the wrong way. I know this for a fact. Regards, HonestFrank

I don't know, Bob. But let me tell you about attacking the left side if your car with a super modified, Nascar style, impact wrench, that sounds like an alcohol injected small block and could power a T-bucket to 10 second 1/4 mile times. With a 150 psi on tap and the direction cranked full left, this intense soul hit those rusty old 35' Pontiac lugs with the speed and accuracy that would earn the envy of any Nascar tire changer.
Lable me a better man now, Bob. One who has yet another colorful tale to add to already rainbow sprinkled rodder past.
So much for the righty-tighty theory, huh, Bob?

My Son learned that lesson the hard way. He's a lefty too! They were made left handed account they thought that if they were right hand that they would loosen up over time and come off. Now we all know that our car manufacturers don't do any wrong, right? This is confussing.

I fully intend to use RH lugs on the new wheels. I don't think anyone makes LH nuts for Alum wheels anyway. Just was wondering why they used the LH in the first place.
