I want to put open drivrshaft rear-end in my '38 Ford. They say a Ford Granada works best.Has anyone done this? Can I use the complete assembly with springs, without relocating the perches? Can I make my own spring mounts? Any other sugestions?
Thanks,

A granada will work, but make sure the wheels you are going to use have the right offset to work with that rearend. The best way to check, is to mount the tires, and set the wheels under the car, and measure between the mounting flanges. A Mavarick rear is an inch or so narrower if needed.

The springs won't work where they are in most cases. They will have to be moved in. In most cases, the rear of the spring is also too long to fit under the rear of the car. Dodge truck front springs for the old straight axle days fit pretty good. In fact, the Chassis Engineering kit is based on them.

I would reccommend the Chassis engineering kit, or Posies kit. I have used both, the instructions are clear, and they fit well. In both cases they are a bolt on.

I just put a Granada in a 35 Buick Series 40. Had the axles redrilled for Chevy pattern and it woks like a charm. I used Posie's rear spring kit, which relocates the pearchs. Everything fits nice and the rear tires are centered in the wheel well.

I have a '65 Nove 10 bolt in my 37 Chevy rag top and that also provides plenty of back space for wheel offset.

I have found open Granada rears for $50-75. If you want an Ford Equalock (Chevy's Posi/Mopar's Suregrip) be ready to pay big bucks.

I'll second that on the Granada rear into a 35 Buick, series 40. I did the same thing about 12 years ago but used the Ford bolt pattern. Gotta love those early Buicks.

Im another 35 Buick Series 40 lover. Wish I kept it...2dr with 390 Cad and hydro.
However I used a 69 Firebird rear, absolutely perfect fit and just had to make new perches. Used the original Buick springs and lever shocks, rode like a dream. It was a Saturday morning job; start to finish. Had a friend cut and balance the driveshaft an hour later.
