Needing help locating a ride and or it's owner
by Slammin
Posted: 11/04/2001 17:33 EST

Is there anybody out there from the eastcoast, mainly the MD VA PA Del. W.VA area that knows the owner of the 'lil' blue chopped channeled pro streeted 'n blown '32 Ford 3 window coupe out of Virginia dubbed "Super Squirrel"? Do you know any info on the car ex. owners name, contact info (e or snail mail address) phone #'s etc...

There for about 10 years back all the way thru the 80's and into the early 90's ('84 to '93 or so) this lil '32 was tearing up the show scene everywhere from OH to DE, NY to FL indoors and outside with a little friendly competition from a friend that had (may still have) a lil screamin' red pro streeted blown channeled and chopped '33 Ford 5 w/cpe.

Ever since '93 or so they both vanished, the red '33 vanished all together, the '32 still hits Ocean City and is pictured in the Spring 2001 event gallery here on SRS.

I have yet to get to OC show so catching up with the owner and car is impossible (maybe this fall when I go). For right now I want to see if anybody out there knows the car/owners whereabouts and contact info so I can contact him and ask some questions. Reason for finding this car and owner, im doing a mini version/clone of this car in 1/24th scale model form and I need some extra info on parts used and how things were done on it, pics just dont explain it as words would.

If you know where the car/owner is, know any contact info to the owner directly or possibly have been around the car thru it's build up stage get in contact with me.

If you think you know the car by my description but aren't sure if what your thinking about is what im thinking about you can check out the car here at SRS on the Ocean City 2001 Event Gallery (dark saphire blue chopped channeled pro street blown '32 3 window deuce with tan interior), and if you do know ANYTHING on the car other than the obvious that pics show I wanna hear from ya!

Thanks in advance

Slammin, I bought a 72 Chopped Monte Carlo off of him in the early 80's !He lives in Delaware.
His name is ELLIS and that's about all I can give you. I do know his brother goes to all the cruise nights and shows all over the country!
He drives a 39 chevy aqua in color and with a dark blue carson top.
Next time I see him which might be next year I will see if I can get you a few pic. of the car!
If you have any contacts in upper DElaware you can probably find him.
nice guy saw him about a year ago he doesn't go to the shows anymore. Good Luck "WHEELS"

Wheels, Thanks for that lil' bit of info on "Super Squirrel". I was always under the impression the car and owner was out of Virginia as I thought his friend with the lil red chopped 'n channeled '33 Ford pro street was also. As far back as I knew the car (first saw it in '86) I always took for granted it was from VA since it had VA tags that read "SHO-OFF". We talkin' about the same car here or a different one? Was it in Delaware before/after moving to/from VA? I have a few pics and video of it from '86 to '93 then it vanished. In all my videos and pics it's got Virginia plates so I'm thinking either it was in Delaware then moved to VA some time between when you saw it and when I first saw it in '86 or since it vanished it left VA and went to De.

Wherever it may be I still want to get as many contacts as I can to Ellis direct or somebody that knows him and the car pretty well so I can get this model in the works.

I do know the '39 your talking about Wheels, it's up in North East MD somewhere, used to see it all over the place now I'm lucky I see it at York, Ft. Smallwood and Harrington...guess the old gang that was in it back when I first got my starts getting out for whatever reason. I sure hope whoever has Super Squirrel now wether it be Ellis or whoever bought it gets back doing alot of shows and not just O.C

I'll ask around and try to find more info or contacts.

Thanks bud!
Grant

Slammin, I can remember the car back in early 80's
Ellis built it and it was at the run at Maple Grove Raceway. I think it was called the RUN TO THE GROVE.
We used to drag race on saturday and just the cars at the run where there to race.It was alot of fun.
I can remember the car was so small inside his brake pedal was on the left side of the steering coloum.
Just about get your left foot on it.
Also the guy who bought the car off of him was from VA.Within the last few years he got it back and put a interior in it for the guy!
Do you remember when the Wheels of Time Use to be in a Campground and the prizes where just as good then as they are now. Or how about Nats. EAST at Timonium Md.
The bull roast and rod Jousting was
alot of fun.
That's all for now, WHEELS

Ps. the guy who had the 33 was the owner of the 32
I think your right Ellis is from MD.

Wheels,

So basically your saying it was built in Delaware by Ellis sometime before '86 when I saw it, he sold it to a guy in Virginia and thats where it is now.

In all the films and pics I have of it there always was a tall guy black long hair to the shoulders with a 'stache...was that the first owner/builder or is that the current?

Who's got it now? Do you know? Any contact with the current owner?

I know its way different than what it was when it first hit the streets. Now its got tan interior (used to have dark blue then grey) it now has Halibrands (used to run Cragar Drag Stars then Cragar Sportsters (not necessarily in that order) used to be solid blue with pinstripes now blue with a purple flame job on both sides.

I'm sure i'll run into somebody this winter or at York that knows what the deal is on the car.

As far as the Nats East being in Timonium I've heard stories left and right about it, But I've always known it to be in York ever since I can remember (gotta remember, that ended in '82 (my rookie year in this world) and im pushin the big 2-0 here bud LOL! I haven't been around all that long ya know). The only rod jousting I've been around was up at Cumberland when NSRA did away with it and the smaller club events picked it up. Luckily Western MD SRA. latched on the idea and now it's the most popular event outside of the carshow itself.

One somewhat local run I miss is Old Line Chasers "Run at the Rocks" up at Rocks State Park. That was a fun 1 day show and the first year the family and I went I won "Best Engineering" award with believe it or not my first ever tricked out wheelchair, custom paint, flames, fake 'chute, homebuilt wheelie bars and a wannabe plastic rollcage. Boy were the guys boo hoo'in over me winning with that and them not getting the trophy with their ride.

It's been a fun 18 years in the rod scene and many more to come.

Thanks for the updated info on "Super Squirrel" Wheels, i'll see if I cant get more info on it.

A year and the 9 months before I hit the scene was considered a warm-up time. At a year old the shows started and I aint stopped yet. Boy it's been fun!

Wheels, I took your advice and threw a e-mail to Jerry Bowers out of Magnolia De. with the "Lo Life High" School Bus and called my uncle in Rehobeth. Haven't heard back from Jerry yet, Doubt I will...I've e-mailed him 5 or 6 different times about different things and no mail back my way. Oh well, Anyway...my uncle knew of the '39 but didn't have much info on the '32 "Super Squirrel". Guess I'll find somebody that knows info on the car in my travels soon.

Ed- you may be "older than dirt" but I'm a member of the Geritol Jet set! Just as long as you don't become a member of the "over 50 year old cross dressers" we'll be OK.

Since we're gonna paint it over if you take it out and get into mischief with the NY State Po Po's for another $750 I'll camoflage paint it. And Ed, If we do camoflage it do yourself a favor and turn the deer horns around the right way, I would hate to see Bambi come runnin at ya.
