350/350 swap

Help, I am a new member looking for help. I have a 63 Impala project that needs a transplant.
I have a 350 that I built and would like to use. Before I start I'd like to find out if anyone has any tricks I can use to save time and money and make the job super nice. Do I need any special mounts, brackets etc. Will I have to cut any floor or fire wall? What electrical changes will need made? (it's an older 350 no computer) If any members can help please respond via e- mail to tlkolrod@blazenet.net thanks everyone

I may be wrong, but this sounds like a no brainer, Drop it in and drive it off. If you use a TH350 tranny, you may have to alter the crossmember mounts and driveshaft, but I doubt it.

If it was originally a V-8, its a bolt in. Some parts may need to be swapped depending on transmission, and manifolds.
I did a 350/TH-350 into a 63 Impala wagon that had a 327/Glide many years ago. Had to modify the shift linkage to get the original column shift to work.
If it was originally a 6 then you also have to adapt the radiator housing and use V-8 mounts.
Also went to a flex fan and the beast was my tow vehicle for years with no problem.
Later on I dropped in a 350/Muncie into a 63 SS that had a 283/Glide. That was another bolt in with parts from a junkyard stick shift donor.
Ive owned 9 63's over the years!

Hey Mr Merc, I have a 63 with a 283 and a powerglide. I would like to find out whats going to be needed at the trans crossmember. What have you used? You mentioned manifold problems may come up. Will stock late 70's fit? Thanks for the help

I havent used any of the later combinations of various tailshafts, manifolds, etc. All my work was in the 70-80 years with what ever was low cost in the yards and pre 70 engine setups. Only did one TH-350 install and that was a pain to adapt the linkage to the column; maybe someone has a kit these days. Mostly Muncies and one TH-400 along with a 396.
If I remember some of the annoying problems were different water pumps, snouts, extenders, necessary to put the fan up under the shroud at the proper spacing from the radiator. A few exhaust manifold problems But the stock 63 fit on the 350.
Been a few years so excuse memory lapses!
