I was apprized of this board just yesterday by a telling fan and liked what I saw...so I am here to enjoy the ambiance. I am an information junky and like gathering as well as giving information. I visit over 15 differing sites(mostly posting boards like this one) and try to glean as much from the participants as I can. I can tell by reading through just some of the posts that there is a lot of knowledge and experience here to share. I hope all of you don't mind me glomming on here! I really look forward to learning from each and everyone of you!
I am an engineer by formal training that happens to build and play with streetrods, muscle cars, tri-years, and so forth. Right now I just got through selling my 32 ford roadster and 34 ford 5 window to two persuasive friends with way too much money. So much for street rods right now, however I have on order parts for a 33 Cabrio that I want to start next summer. I do have a 57 Chevrolet Belair, 55 Chevrolet Belair, and my wife drives a 69 SS Camaro convertible that we are rodding this winter! I bought the 55 for my father of 80 years young so he can join the fray! I consider myself a streetrodder in as much as a anything else. I have had this passion since growing up in Indy in the late 60s!
Some of you may have seen my posts elsewhere, whereas I do get around and I am a Goodguys Representative (not a paid staff member) for the Southeast, however if you have questions, suggestions and even complaints about Goodguys, I do address everyones concerns. I do have a mission about the GGs thing in that I want to make the organization better. Goodguys does a lot of things right, but also has room for a lot of improvements. Your comments and suggestions are welcome....that's the only way we get better...listening to the customer! I don't bash the other guys either, I like their events as well.
I do have a wide diversity of experience in my background. Even though I am an electrical engineer, I have also had a aircraft mechanics license as well (not current though). I do build engines (and rods) and have access to dynos for testing. I have done extensive testing in the areas of cooling and electrical wiring of performance and hobby cars. I usually can help you with questions on either of these subjects and have articles written on both that are up for publication. I am very opinionated about the engineering, physics and science that goes into the autos that we build and play with....whereas I am a qualitative type of individual moreover than anything else. I believe in performance, reliability, safety and fun...and not necessarily in that order.
I do look forward to corresponding with the veterans here and this is what I come for.....to pour through all of the questions and answers to glean as much as I can. I know I will not only learn but enjoy the ride!
Special thanks to the Webmaster for creating such a requiem for folks like me!! I love it!

Welcome aboard, Steve. It's great to "see" so many new faces lately. We're very glad that you came across our board and I'm sure you'll be able to add quite a bit to the conversations. As for the Goodguys topic, I'm sure you've already browsed through the ongoing thread on Goodguys vs. NSRA - some good info in there.
If you get an itch to write some sort of article based on your extensive engineering background, we would love to add it to our articles section. That goes for anyone else, too. We're always on the lookout for folks who can add some solid content.
Again, welcome.

Welcome aboard, I have seen HOTRODSRJ postings on just about every round table I have visited and know that you bring a wealth of knowledge and advice for us. This is what this site is about, helping one another to build what ever it is you call a "streetrod", "musclecar", "hot rod" or you name it. I sincerely enjoy the banter here, but appreciate the focus is on helping one another and not a "us vs them" mentality that I have seen elsewhere. Folks, if you have questions ask away, Steve has the experience and knows his Hot Rods........
Keep the Shiny side up.....

Hi Steve, Welcome aboard. Since i'm the one that started this whole thing about NSRA va Goodguys. I'm sorry if i stepped on anybody toes!!!!. It all started about getting ideas on the weekly poll question. I just thought everybody would like to know where everybody goes.
But i do got to say this is interesting. :) and i do attend both.

Hey Rick and everybody....thanks for the enthusiastic welcome! I can tell right now that this is a different place when it comes to rod sites. There are actually some others, in my experience, that have pecking orders and politics out the waaazoooooo!! It looks to me already that this is definitely not the case. And I also noticed that my GGs buddy Johnny Walker (The Man not the Wiskey) is here as well. Great fellowship I am sure.
I think the fostering of ideas in the public forum is great and the debate on the GGs vs the NSRA folks is a good one to have. It gives us insight to what the customer really wants.
Look forward to hangin out here!

I am from Duluth,Jawja! That's a northern sub-suburb of Atlanta. I get to most of the SE shows including some of the independents. I usually attend the NSRA Natsouth in Knoxville in the spring, Orlando Goodguys, Charlotte Goodguys, a couple of trips to Pigeon Forge for various car spending sprees, etc.
I am going to do a big car show at the North Ga MALL in the spring for Simon Properties. It will be an all day affair starting at noon and lasting to 10. The mall will put on a heck of a show and fireworks etc. We have alotted 1000 spaces for cars. We will have bands that play live on the mall at the mall, we will have a real radio station DJ, and we are trying to get a big time Winston Cup Driver to attend as well. We plan a midway as well. Maybe you can come up or down and enjoy the fun.
The car show will be fun as well. We already have a Speedvision TV production company interested in covering the event and doing interviews about the various cars.

Don't think I'll be able to make it. The ol' rod run budget is pretty well depleated for this year. I am in south Florida, West Palm Beach area. Do plan on hitting the Orlando next year. See ya then.

Welcome Steve
I admit that I am the one that gave Steve a heads up on the GG vs NSRA posts. I did this because I have coresponded with Steve re: Good Guys on other matters, and I knew he would be very interested in hearing what people had to say.I also knew that he would read them, and bank the opinions for future GG's meetings without holding any malice what so ever.
I think most of you would be pleasantly surprised with his viewpoints on a lot of topics that relate to street rodding in general not only the GG's shows.
I have read posts from him on other boards, and I can tell all of you that if he posts an opinion, it will be to help you, and his opinions seem to be from a very vast knowledge bank. In other words, if Steve responds, you should probably listen.
Welcome
Jim Callaghan

Hi Jim, I'm glad you gave Steve the link to the SRS. I like to see more reps and/or Mag publication editors in here. And tell us there point of view, or anybody's point of view.
We all want to learn something or share something, or we wouldn't be here. That's what makes this hobby so great.

There are Reps from other organizations here. I myself am a State Director for Kustoms Of America. I think surfing the web is the best way to find out what people want and need out of their organizations and at the shows/runs.If only we could get ALL the organizations working together to a common Goal. GGs & KOA have worked together and it seemed to be to everyones benefit. While I'm preaching that, I just want to think Johnny Walker publicly for his support in Pigeon Forge. There's my 2 cents before tax.

I'm weighing which organization I'd be best suited for. My car (http://morris.accesszone.com) is technically a 1960 Model, but the styling cues and body design (1948) would actually make it a "mini" street rod. I'm going to be adding '39 Ford tail-lights I think, and doing some other things. (The biggest thing to date is the chopped top and shaved doors.) Does anyone else have any input on this?
This car is going to be far from traditional in every sense. Instead of a V8 it'll have a turbo four. It'll be a neat little ride.
HI BRADLEY, SORRY TO SAY YOU WON'T HAVE ANY CHOICE IN THE MATTER. NO MATTER HOW MUCH THE "ROD" IS CHOPPED, SHAVED, FRENCHED, ETC, ITS STILL A 1960 MODEL. NSRA'S CUT OFF DATE IS 1948. THE GOODGUYS SHOWS WILL WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN ARMS THOUGH. LOOKING FORWARD TO CHECKING OUT PHOTOS OF IT. ITS ALWAYS NICE TO SEE SOME "DARE TO BE DIFFERENT" RIDES OUT THERE.

I checked out your Morris. The photo-shop pics are not that far from being realistic modifications. There are many sources for moon style covers, I'm sure hagans or someone has a universal kit to french the lights and then, with the mods already done, it's a kustom. As in Kustoms Of America. Theres an organization for ya. If its modified,It's qualified! Sorry you all. I can't keep myself from Recruiting. www.kustomsofamerica.com
