'37 Ford Rear end advice needed

While I wait on delivery of my Lakes Modified Track T from Zipper, I'm thinking over what I'd like to do to it. One thing I was thinking is, sense the rear end is un-covered and very exposed maybe somthing besides a Ford 9-inch would be nice. Not having the money for a Quick Change, and having a original '37 rear endin my spare parts pile, I got to thinking. Wouldn't it look good to chrome the center section and paint the axle houseings to match the body. But that raises a couple of questions I was wondering if anybody had a answer for...
#1 - Is there a way to convert it to a open driveshaft?
#2 - Is there anybody making a brake kit to convert it to modern brakes?
#3 - wonder how you'd narrow it considering the axle houseing are somewhat funnel shaped?

Any advice would be great!
Terry

There is a company doing a kit to convert closed rears to open but their name escapes me at the moment (although from memory it was not cheap), I went through the same procedure, when I worked out all the costs It was not far off the price of a QC centre section, I found Halibrand to be expensive (probably paying for the name) and started looking around, and I am about to purchase a Winters 10" QC centre section with adapters for early ford side casings, I will use the early ford casings which are the same as you have, and Because the Winters uses a 9" ford diff I will put ford big bearing housing ends on the casings and use 31 spline ford axle shafts, you then have an unlimited choice of brakes and the option of changing the gears. I know this probably does not help you but the point I am making is that the costs in doing the 37 centre section could run away to figure not far off a QC, and it is cheaper to just buy a centre section and build your own axle. check out www.wintersperformance.com

Thanks Gary thats was just what I was looking for! But I see your point about cost, just a quick look and I think I'm looking at over 1700.00. I'll cruize by winters now and give them a look.

Thanks! Terry
