brakes

OK all you brake experts lets see what kind of help you can give me on this one.
My 47 Ford coupe has a 79 Camero front sub-frame and the brake system is 79 Camero (disk front/drum rear) with a 78 Nova rear end.
No matter how hard I get on the brake pedal, I can't lock up the brakes. The car stops straight & I guess fast enough but it seems like it should have more braking power.
I have put on new master cylinder and booster & it made no difference, in fact, it seems like the booster isn't doing anything at all.
What gives here? Do I need a bigger booster or what?

Fred,......I have to agree with the first poster....Ed...in that what is your working vacuum? Is the booster a 7 inch or 9 or what. Another issue is that your wheel size and weight of the vehicle will give the tires mechancial advantages that the 79 Camaro never had, thus not being able to lock'em down if they are too big. Your weight is probably pretty close.

If the pedal feels hard....then the booster is probably not plentished by enough vacuum. In that case, buy an electric vacuum pump and hook it up! If you have plenty of assist then the system may be out of proportion or another issue. Brake pads even make a difference.

It sounds like your ABS system is functioning properly. ........Just kidding! ........I ain't no expert, Fred, but can you lock 'em up on gravel? --- If not, it sounds like possibly glazed pads and shoes, or too hard friction material. ---- If they do lock on gravel, it appears your tires have a GOOD grip on pavement. ---- Does your car "nosedive" due to weight transfer during braking?

The booster is a stock 79 Camero unit, looks to be a 9" size.
I am running a stock cam right now and have plenty of vacuum. About 18" at idle.
