what is the first year that ford started with the "F" series pickups and trucks?

The first year for the F series was 1948 before that they were rated by 1/2, 3/4, or 1 ton and so on.

that is what i've found and been told by many people.

I agree with Dave. My 1949 is an F1, as is its parts donor, the 48. My 35 has no designation.
