Need a little help in choosing the right grade of oil. I have invested in a 502 , what grade of oil would be the best to use? Should I use a custom blend or multi weight oil? I use this motor the way it was intended to be used. the motor is fully broken in runs extremely well, I'd like to keep it in this condition as long as possible. So far it gets 16 to 17 miles to a gallon on the high way, (3.00 ring gear) but if ya use the loud pedal, you can watch the gauge drain it self right in front of your EYES
thanks Bob

I've used synthetic oils for more than 15 years and on one vehicle, put 250,000 on it with the engine showing good oil pressure when I sold it. My particular preference is Mobile 1 but there are others out there now just as good.
As for Dino oils, I only use them for either breakin oils or if the engine has a lot of wear when I bought it.
I thnk there are a few others doing the same. Fred P

ditto to freds response, synthetic motor oils are a wonderful thing, the gearlubes work extremely well too, differentials will run cooler with synth. gearlubes.

My vote is for synthetic as well. It just adheres to parts better and can stand up to hotter engine temps.....alittle slippy-er. Dyno proves it...not much hp gain though..a percent is typical.

I dug this link up in the archives - a good thread on synthetics:
kudos to all that are using synthetic oils ..amsoil invented synthetic oil before mobil 1.......all the oil companys are telling you to spend more for syn, then telling you to change at normal intervals.amsoils 0w/30 is guaranteed for 35000. miles its awsome to only haveto change a filter every 12000. miles.......sure saves gas and the enviroment let alone the hassle crawling under the car and disposing of the used oil....what a unique concept.I'ts better for it and less hassle.........
