Serpentine belt system

I have Zoops brackets on my small block w/air and alternmator on top a reverse rotation warner water pump. The distance from the damper pulley and the compressor is quite a ways and there is no tensioner. My problem is a viblation in the belt at this position. The factory belt on my truck is extreamly tight but it has a spring loaded tensioner. If I tighten my hot rod belt that tight it would have no flex or tensioner action it would be just plain old tight and I have always been told 1/2 or 9/16 in flex is good..any and all comments will be read.. thanks

DR.....well the first mistake you made was buying a Zoops....you should have bought my Concept One System. Too late now I guess heheeh......but I will help anywho.

We design all our pulley systems with no tensioner or take-up reel because they do what you say they do with engine harmonics and they also like to let play into the belt system at a time (usually during hard, high rpm and fast shifts) were belt inertia provides enought force to, in some cases, walk the belt off.

The serp belt is tension tested differently than that of a v belt. It should be taught enough just to allow your longest run to be able to just twist the belt 90 degrees and that's it....pretty tight to say the least. Goodyear, a major manufacturer of these serp belts, has a tensioner tool/gauge that you can buy as well.

Steve, do you make a concept one system for a LT-1 motor (corvette) with the electric water pump, that relocates the alternator and a/c compressor, other componenets to work in a Fat Fendered Ford (37 fordor sedan)?? Send me your URL to look at the unit.

thanks

Sorry........just basic small blocks with regular (either Tuff Stuff or Edelbrock pumps). Big blocks on the board now. I will send you a pic of our fat fendered design. They will fit LT4s etc....but not LT1s.

It's quite unfortunate you are not as well versed as you pretend to be concerning Zoops Brackets! Zoops does not use a tensioner either. Our idler pulleys are used in some of our serpentine systems to simply clear other components or obstructions. Belt tension is provided by our components ADJUSTING BARS. In Jim Murphy's case, his belt slap was due to loose bolts (untightened) on the L-bracket underneath the main body bracket when the brackets were INSTALLED!
Zoops Products are designed and built by professionals for the aftermarket aut. industry. They are made to fit a wide variety of applications and work quite flawlessly when properly installed. Probably a good reason why zoops Bracke/pulley system were chosen as Sema Award winners for best streetrod and custom car product in 1998.
Zoops as well as other manufactures products are often installed by streetrod shops. Most shops due good work-but there are some shoddy ones out there. A good reason that the car owner should go over all the work himself after bringing his car home from the shop. Everyone is human and everyone needs to remember that!!

As always, Zoops is interested in getting to the root of a problem.
