fuel guage

I got a new VDO sendeing unit for GM set for 0-90 ohms.
I can;t get it to work for me. Maybe guage is bad since the previous owner hooked up a Chrysler sending unit to it (which of course didn't work) Anyone got any experience with sending units? I could use the help. I mounted it in anew Tanks poly tank in my 47 Ford

Not up on sending units, But do you have a good ground?

Ricks right with a poly tank are you sure you have a good ground to the senderO ohms should make the gauge go empty and 90 ohms should read full.

I should have a good ground. I ran a wire from the terminal on the flange to the frame. I can't get the guage to do anything. How do I hook up an ohm meter to check the resistance?

Attach one end of your ohmmeter to the sender assembly (ground) and the other end to the wire that feeds your gauge.
Full=90 ohms.
Empty=0 ohms.
If your sender is OK check your wire from the sender to the gauge in the same manner with your ohmmeter.
Should be very close to 0 ohms maybe 1 or 2 ohms.
If that is all OK you probably have a problem in your gauge.

When I do that, I get 90 ohms all the time no matter wher the float is. This is a brand new VDO sender too.
