Cruizin Tunes

Okay gang, just another lil thing to keep the brain cells working. What is your favorite song to play while cruisin around the local hang-out? I sorta lean to the Eagles "Take It Easy". This should be fun and show all the different age groups. : )

I would have to say "Call me the Breeze" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, "Slow Ride" by Foghat, or "Jump, Jive and Wail" by The Brian Setzer Orchestra.

When I'm in the rod its generally 50s R&R....Shakin Stevens, "The Epic Years" gets a hammerin...wife plays it to death at home. When I'm drivin in the hack for my job in the bush I play Tommy Emmanuel....most of his CDs. When I'm tranquil and want to touch my youth I play the Beatles...mainly the latter stuff. When I'm in a ragin mood I like ZZ Top, SRV..( must be somethin in Texas boogie!)

My idea of a cruising tune is when the song first comes on I'm doing the speed limit and when it's done I'm not. How about Springsteens- Born To Run or Great Whites- Once Bitten Twice Shy. Try Glen Freys- Party Town.

You rang a bell there "Wheels1950".....Back when that movie came out I was in a band and we used to do some covers off the sound track..I recall it was the Beaver Band were the originals...In fact our opening song was " Dark Side"..that used to get a good crowd response...set them up for what they were going to get the rest of the night.

For open highway cruzin I listen to anything from the 50-60's era, mostly from my own Napster downloaded playlist of over 500 titles.
At stoplights, beach cruising or shows I kick in the 4 CD Box Set collection from Rhino "Hot Rods and Custom Classics".
I grew up in the 50's so get kinda set in my likes! A few of my favorites would be Maybelenne, Thunder Road, anything by Duane Eddy.

HI Carl; I see you are a fan of Duane Eddys,I had the
pleasure of meeting him last year at the Ryman
Auditorium. They had a one night show just to
Salute him THE TWANG YEARS, What a night! anyone
who is known as a real guitar player was there,
Chet Atkins,Peter Frampton,Wille Nelson,Marty Stuart,Johyn Fogerty,Vince Gill, just to list a few, I
happened to read about it in the local paper,
ran right down and got tickets, then went to
the stage door out back and got to meet him
before the show. What a thrill for a guy who
grew up with his music. Dakotadan

Wow Dan, I didnt even know he was still around. That sure must have been a huge thrill to hear and meet him. I still have many of his old 45's and keep finding something different on Napster.
My #2 son is a guitar fanatic and used to practice Eddy's stuff as a kid. He is now 27, a USAF officer and is thinking about starting a rock band and maybe making a career if he can when he gets out.

great night. They filmed the night, but cant find
who will sell it to me. I wish the oldes stations
would play his music more, all they play is rock
around the clock, I hate that song, they miss
out on some of the Real Great Songs,Like Town with out
Pitty,40 miles of bad road,Teen beat and so on
I know you know what I mean I think we are close
to the same age, I have been into Hot Rods sense

A little SRV or Kenny Wayne Sheperd always gives a laid back feeling as your crusin in town. Out on the open road I really like my southern rock. Allman Brothers or Marshall Tucker either one.

Just about anything from the 50's but one that comes to mind is "Route 66". If you want to get the juices flowing, put on "Devil With The Blue Dress On" !! I'm from the "moldy oldies" generation!

I can't name a favorite song...it depends on what I'm doing. '50s & '60s oldies get played a lot and when I'm in the mood, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bob Seger, even George Thorogood. I never did like bubblegum music, rap, or much music after the mid-seventies. Kinda reflects my age of 52, I guess.

I just overhauled a pumpkin for my 9". Now that it is in, I can hook up the CD player. Up til now, it wasn't worth the effort as you wouldn't hear it over the howl anyway. After all that noise, I'm glad I'm not running a quickchange. I'm enjoying the quiet.

Maggie and I ;-)

Rob Zombie (for driving fast) or Slaughter (for cruising and singing along) but I have been known to crank up almost anything on the classic rock stations I get locally.

Matter of fact, right this moment I'm listening to NetRadio and Whitesnake's "Slow an' Easy" is playing. Good jam. Probably not too hard to figure out I'm in my early 30's... ;-)

hey doc, you look funny with no hair!

anyway, if i'm just cruisin', most of the time i don't listen to anything but wind noise and rattles....

hmmm, sounds like a rap group or something...

if i can hear the radio, it's usually got some harder-type rock or blues in it.
no real favorites, though.

I got it in tech school about 15 years ago.

I enrolled in a 2 year auto body course, and my project car was a '79 Honda Accord. First 2 weeks of school I patched a small hole in one of the front fenders, and after priming it up realized once the paint was on I'd have no project to work on. So I bought one of the Ron Fournier Metalforming books, and started on building a whaletail out of sheet metal. After that, one thing kinda led to another and I got way nutso on the body mods.

After extensive work on ground effects, a steel tilt nose, and gullwing doors, I was finishing up some larger fender flares and my shop instructor came by and said... " So, Dr Chop, what ya gonna do next, put another motor in it?" and I said "...yeah...think I will...".

The next day I dragged in another Accord that was hit in the tail end and promptly cut off the entire front clip at the firewall. With the use of one of the lifts, the entire rear suspension and floor of my project car was cut out, and the car lowered over the other front drive clip, trimming anything in the way until the tires fit in the fender openings. Suitable plate and tubing stock was used to reinforce the front clip into it's new home. The steering was modified to lock the wheels straight and adjusted for zero toe. Brakes were hooked up and bled, and it was a roller again.

Over the next several weeks I got the manual trans shifter linkage hooked up to another stick behind the original, the hydraulic clutch master was changed for one with a slightly larger bore and the clutch lines teed together, the throttle cable adapted to the pedal assembly, and the extra wiring and such attended to. In school I also added large air intake scoops to the quarter panels just aft of the doors, and made up some aluminum ductwork to supply air to the rear motor's radiator. Of course this meant there was no back seat any more, so a firewall was made up behind the front seats up to the beltline, and the area paneled off with sheet back to the rear hatch, with an engine access door for maintenance.

Most of the time I left the rear trans in Neutral and drove it with the front engine. Was lots of fun to go out on weekends to the cruiser's hangouts and fire the second engine up while rolling with the clutch in, pop the rear trans in Reverse, and dump the clutch. Several times I could pull off stationary burnouts with all 4 tires smoking until they popped...

Wish I still had the pics of it, I lost them at the end of a bad relationship... :-(

Nobody, but nobody can tell me that "Johnny B Goode" screaming outta your speakers when you're cruzing at a respectable speed isn't cool...and when you're goin' slow, nothing matches Brooke Benton's "Someday", with all those low bass notes...of course, Fun, Fun, Fun by Beach boys and
"unchained melody" make a simular good combo...

As long as it's 50's and cool...that's all that counts.
