What is the reason for a double flare on brake lines ? My guess is better seal and stronger connection with the fitting to elimenate it from pulling out of the fitting. Did I miss any thing here.

hello board, Ive been lurking for a while, watching the site, but this is my first post.
For the double flare question, you shouldnt double flare stainless. you should double flare steel tubing because it has a weld seam and probably wont seal without a double flare.

Hi Glen, You must double flair all steel brake lines,or they will leak and may burst at the flair in a real hard stop. It's real easy to do, and the price of the double flair tools has really come down. HonestFrank

sorry, my first post on the board and im disagreeing with people already. I only double flair steel lines, from the autoparts store. Stainless i do single flair with AN fittings.

Especially to lurkers out here like myself who often dont chime in with their opinions or are learning as we build. You remember our emails about your engine set-up on your roadster? I decided to go with the single 600 cfm and a lower stall converter, about a 2400 for the 35.

HI ALL, I think if you try to double flare stainless it will work harden . the double flare is 45 deg. and the single AN is 37 deg. Here might be a tip on flaring stainless, my older pro model AN flaring tool warns you to NOT to use a tubing cutter befoe you flare because it will work harden the end. cut it with a hacksaw and DE BURR with a file. I never used stainless brake tubing so I dont know. but a fellow rodder this summer told me his AN stainless brake lines weeped and he told it was't uncommon. I don't know but, I never had a mild steel doulble flare leak. maybe some comments from stainless users.
