Does anyone have a source for a power deck lid opener? I havea 32 roadster and would like to put a power lift in , but am not crazy about spending $200.00 .I have tried Yogi's & Balls.

you can take a power window motor out of a big car like a olds, caddy, buick and make that work with a little modification. you make a bracket to hold the motor then make a arm to hook to the deck lid.

when you use the power window regulator, use before 1994 GM. In 95 they started using the cable.

I've got a electric motor off a 94 Firebird headlight assembly.
It's incredibly strong and would be easy to adapt for a rear lid.
It's got a bolt on crank so all you would have to do is make a longer crank.
Hope this helps

The price is crazy on those things. Called Gibbons for one looked like the best one around but the price was like $400.00. Why not just put a popper on it and lift it yourself . door poppers work great and alot cheaper.

Dan, Glad to be some help. Also watch those gas shocks on some light cars they seem to lift trunk, but they also lift the lid when in the down position. I tried to use one on my 36 and it almost ripped the decklid apart. And yes I did use different strenths. some are to light and the others are to strong Good Luck WHEELS1950

I guess the trick is not to mount the lifts on a weak surface.I would reinforce the mounting area reguardless
of the material you mount to...Ray

Grumpy,I have used a set of gas shocks that were designed for that car ie: 40 Merc conv. from a well known streetrod parts builder and the surfaces were completely reinforced,
and the same problem they lifted the trunk when it was in the down position. it worked great when you hit the switch and the trunk opened but they put a strain on the deck lid.
check some out this year at the runs and you'll see what I mean. If it works for you great! but I don't like them

You might want to contact Surplus Center (1-800-488-3407) out of Lincoln, NE, they have several 12v linear actuators available for a few bucks. I got a 12v SKF brand with a 6" stroke, 450# push, 780# static load a while back, current price is $79.95 (Item Number 5-1228). A Saginaw unit with 1000# push (Item Number 5-1314), 6" stroke, $119.99, a Tompson/Saginaw unit with a 8" stroke (Item Number 5-1312), 1500# push, $129.99.
With respect to linear actuators please don't forget to look under power seats. I have a neat little unit for my landing light that came from a Honda Accord front seat, small, light weight, powerful, pretty neat as a whole.
That's my 8% of two bits.

Why not use air lifts. It would open by it's self with a remote latch but would have to be shut manually. You can buy the lifts anywhere pretty cheap....Ray

I have to agree with Grumpy. The airlifts work great! I installed two 40# units on my 32 roadster and use a remote release. It's really trick and works like a charm. Total cost less than $50.

IN regards to airlifts I assume you mean rear hatch struts, a fiberglass body maker cautioned me about using them on a glass decklid. In the hot sun the constant pressure could bow the decklid, I know Harwood uses them and others do too. but maybe
you have to be careful where they attach on the lid. DEUCELOVER

My car uses good old fashoned "me" power to open the decklid. Although my wife would argue the point, I am trouble free and real easy to figure out.
