Painters near San Francisco

I'm almost ready to get my rod painted, and I'm overwhelmed by the number of body shops around here. I don't have time to check all of them all out, and I'd sure not be happy with getting a second rate job for my $$$.
Of course, I don't have thousands to spend on this. It's still going to be a "5 foot" car.
So, my question is two fold. Maybe more folds...
Can anybody recommend a painter? Is somebody a painter? Am I dreaming in thinking I can get shot for $1000?
I'd really like somebody in Marin or Sonoma counties but that may be out of the question.
Someone in my car club suggested going to Nevada, since they have different air control laws. Any feedback on this?

RMSHAP; Can't recommend any painters, but can tell you this, The material will cost half of what you want to spend. I've had three cars painted by three different shops and was not happy with any of them and the jobs were 3000.00 to + 5000.00. No body work just paint. Call someone Brizzio and get their opinion. just my .02 RP peggys other half

RM, I hate to burst your bubble but.... I know I can't paint my own car for a thousand bucks. The materials will cost almost that. Up here, materials alone can account for $700 to a $1000 (now that's canadian so about 350 to 500 american)on a straight sand and paint. Remember the old adage "You get what you pay for"
