Another Bolt Pattern question

I read the threads on a previous bolt pattern confusion, but have my own question not covered there.

I also saw the site referenced in that post, but didn't see what I was looking for.

I am looking for new light truck tires and wheels for my flat bed (not used to tow a show car, just parts).

I measured across from one stud, skipping one to the third stud. It is a 5 lug wheel, but that measurement is 4 3/4 (not the actual bolt circle, but across the studs). This would end up being something like 5 on 5?

Does anyone feel like doing the geometry to figure out the actual lug circle or better yet know of a light truck with the same measurement.

A lot of folks replace new tires and stock wheels with bigger ones, rendering their old (new) ones cheaper than buying new.

Try http://home.att.net/~fteufert1/wheels/bolt-pat.htm I'd rather look up the wheel pattern by make than rely on measuring, unless you use a plastic bolt pattern gauge. I think Made For You has one.

I have a tool that is made by~Made For You Products~ that I use when shopping for wheels and such.It is a disc with all the bolt patterns on it and it has the measurements on it also. The one I have has four patterns on it and can be put on the axle or a wheel to check the bolt pattern. The measurments on all the bolt patterns are not true measurements.Like a 4 1/2 is not a true 4 1/2 inch pattern.I think the one you are looking at is called a 5 1/2 but it is really smaller than that....Ray

What kind of truck is this. I suspect there are at least a couple people on here who can tell you the bolt circle diameter with that info alone. If the axles have been changed what were they out of? Or is this the mystery parts?

I just went out in the drive and measured the Astro van which I know is 5 on 5 and it measures almost dead on 4-3/4 from one stud center to the 3rd stud center.

Years ago I remember seeing a note in a magazine that told all of the measurements to figure out the diameter that way but who knows where that was. Next time your at one of the big meets, be it NSRA or Good Guys watch for one of those Maid For You plastic templates. Heidts also gives a paper one away in his booth. or at least did for a long time. A guy with a little basic geometry could probably chart out those measurements without too much trouble.

Thanks Charlie.

My trailer has two solid trailer axles and I don't know what kind of rims they are. I wouldn't mind getting some factory rally wheels or something, since the originals are rusting around the rim and I have to put tires on it anyway.

I will be at York PA in June for the NSRA show, so I will look for one of those lug pattern things.

Our local junk sale (Englishtown Swap Meet) is coming up next week and I usually find great deals on stuff there. I just wanted to be prepared with a vehicle type to match the pattern I am looking for. I will have to measure either way.

Thanks again.

i was told that to measure a bolt pattern you should measure from the edge of one stud, skipping one, and then to the center of the next stud. this is supposed to give you the proper pattern measurement.
