Wax

There was a debate this year at one of the shows. Now it's your guys/gals turn.
Which brand of wax is best and which one you use on your street rod?

CRUZR, for many years when I had something worth showing off, my "wax" of choice was good ol original spray on Pledge. This was after the car was as squeeky clean as you could get it. The original Pledge (no lemon scent) was a pure Carnuba wax with a carrier and was "smoothed" out with old soft T shirts and keeping the cloth as dry as possible.
If you have any doubts, try it in an unobtrusive area.
It worked best on my black '60 vette and I believe that laquear (?) was used then. Now days with clear coats, I don't think that the type of wax is important as it used to be. Fred P

I recently started using 3M show car paste wax & I love it. I also use 3M Spray Gloss Enhancer between wasx jobs to remove those pesky fingerprints, etc.

The 3M gloss enhancer is a great product for shows. I use it with an ever-so-lightly damp cloth to prevent smearing and it works great. I don't know what is does.......but when you get done with it, the car looks great and the color "enhanced".

I don't wax my cars that much because on black or red the leftovers stick out like a sore thumb.....but I use California Gold, Mothers show and the fastest, easiest and shinning Wax Shop Super Glaze!

The best long lived and tough wax remains according to consumers NU FINISH which I use on all my driven vehicles. Twice a year and I wash all my cars in regular dish washing soap which is the best surfactant and particle lifter/lubricator that you can get. I know it is tough on the wax....but takes the tiny little particles away from the cracks and crevices and will actually spare your painted surfaces (according to Mercedes research..not mine but I believe them).

Just my two sense!

Steve:
I watched the demo put on by 3M at Columbus & the guy said the "leftovers" left by most waxes is caused by fillers. Thats why they all turn white when they dry.
The 3M does not turn white because it has no fillers. It's pure wax.Give it a try next time.

I AGREE, "MEGUIARS" PRODUCTS ARE THE BEST. I HAVE A BLACK CAR AND EVERYTHING SHOWS UP ON THAT. I USE THE POLISH AND THE GOLD CLASSIC WAX, FABULOUS !!! FOR THE CHROME AND THE ALUMINUM I USE "SEMI-CHROME". IT CAN BE PURCHASED AT YOUR FAVORITE MOTOR CYCLE SHOP. EXPENSIVE BUT THE BEST THAT I HAVE FOUND FOR ALUMINUM.
...AND BEN-GAY FOR THE ELBOWS....

Hey, for long drives, try using Pam cooking spray on the nose and bumper.....the parts where bugs stick. If you use this stuff the bugs wont stick, just wipes off leaving your wax job untouched. The best aluminum polish I have found is called The Greenstuff, I guarrentee you have never used anything like it. Don`t knock it til ya tried it. www.greenstuffpolish.com And I`ve used em all. Easy on...easy off. They will give you a sample if you ask.

Blue Coral wash and wax in one and Neverdull on the chrome seems to work well enough without having to work too hard at the waxing!

I use a product made by Aero Cosmetics. It is called Wash & Wax All. It also reduces static so the truck won't attract dirt like most products do. Has anyone else tried this stuff??......
I buy it at a small air port but you can buy it over the net at ... www.aerocosmetics.com

Hey Cruzr, I like to use a by-product called Genuine Road Grime. It's cheap, low maintanance and once it's baked on, it's almost impossible to rub off. After a lite shower, re-applications are a snap, it reduces the chances of my car being stolen and gives off a manly image that not so pretty chics really dig.
You guys can have those expensive polishes and waxes, I'm gonna sit right here, drink another beer and wait for a quick shower.

I never thought about trying to wax primer. Kinda defeats the purpose I would think and would be rough on appicators and "polishing" clothes LOL Fred P

I've come up with a great way to actually determine which wax is best. Let's all meet in a central location, say Kansas, and bring your wax of choice. I'll bring my vette, which hasn't been waxed in about 5 years, and everyone can use their product on a panel and we'll all judge which ones best. Sound good?

Oh man you guys are rough! Poor Denise is probably undergoing long and extensive therapy since the loss of her "baby" and now you guys want to break out the torches!?! I think we can put her in a rubber room real soon (but then again some of us need to be there by now too!)

Denise, since you're going to volunteer your vette for a little action from everybody here, we might as well bring some tools and fix it up a little before we wax it. Maybe like this???????????

Here's another pic. Its a concept car made by an Austrian based company named Magna Steyr as a tribute to GM. It was at Woodward Dreamcruise this summer. Don't know if they're planning on marketing it or not. Definitely not in my price range if they do. There's a little more stuff on this site: http://www.commemorativevette.com

I'm not much of a vette guy, but I like this one.
