what a ride!

If any of you guys get the chance to see Steve Jack's (hotrodsrj) 1957 Chevy in person you'll be amazed! I got the chance at a small/medium sized show in Covington,GA this weekend and it is SWEET! Clean and the little details to make the whole package come together (he even has door lock knobs that are little bowties!) We had a good time at the show, but as is the case at some of the shows that I've been to the "locals" have their own set of rules to play by. All in all it was a georgeous day, I got to meet some new friends and got a chance to see some nice cars to get more ideas to add/change my ride. Thanks to 34Phil,Steve and his lovely wife for coming out. It was great meeting you guys.

Hey Bill......thanks for the cuddos on the 57 and wife! I ejoyed meeting you and your ride certainly is a fine piece of machinery as well. I really like panel deliveries....just something about them that makes them kinda cozy and cool to me.

You are right about the local rules....read the post that I made at the end of the "Street Rod/Pro show" debate about Sunday's experience if you haven't already! I totally enjoyed the atmosphere....but the rules were....funky to say the least. I felt sorry for some of the younger guys eager to get a prize for their days work and got simply overlooked by the group. The guy with the tricked out Honda that was playing movie DVDs was really cool. The car was sitting there idling and you saw the belts going around and the sound system was awsome.....but there was absolutely no noise from the engine to tell you that it was running at all! It was quieter than my wife's sewing machine! I could hear the sound system a block away....so I had to check it out.

The Barracuda convertible that won the "Best of Show" was really excellent too. I have been debating about building a Mopar for some time. I talked to the guy trying to get him to come to Charlotte Goodguys.....he certainly would get the looks.

Steve,
obviously by the cleanliness of your car you are obsessed! I urge you to seek professional help- then you want to build a Mopar!?! (this is obviously the work of someone derranged!) But seriously I do think the cost/parts availabilty issue would be a problem to build something of that nature-but it could be really cool too!

Bill...you are absolutely right about my stickler for detail obcessiveness disorder. But, I need a new challange(r)and the learning is what is the most fun to me. So...who knows...maybe next year my name my be "Charger Steve" or "Cuda Jack" or something like that. Actually, I want a early 70s mopar convertible something.....me thinks.

Local Rules
by ALKLB

We had a show last week in our area run by the local Fire Dept. The largest trophy was won (bought?) by the worst car there. It has bondo, crooked panels and a knock in the engine. The owner goes to all the entrants and promises to vote for them. They do so not realizing that he did this to all the entrants and can only vote for 6 of them on his pier ballot. When I commented, I was jumped on big time and accused of trying to undermine our local club. The owner does this all the time! Now I am on the outs with my club.
Local rules can be very wrong. All he did was stop the nice cars from getting well deserved recognition! The shame of it is that this owner also has a REAL NICE Mustang that would have deserved it, but brought this nice to look at but not so nice Charger.

A few years back I attended a local show with my 23 C-cab. There were only 3 classes. Before the war, after the war, and convertables. While registering I was told by a show offical that in his opinion, my car was illegal cuz it was fiberglass. Many fine restored cars from all years were there. Before the war prize went to a barn fresh Ford, and after the war also went to a barn fresh Ford, both owned by the towns hiway manager. Best in show went to a 32 coupe that wasn't there untill trophy time, and it was a fiberglass kit!!! Small shows, go figure! Dave

not all small shows are poorly promoted. This past weekend I attended a show about 30 miles from home with about 80 or so cars there. No judging,no trophys, but some great door prizes. They gave away aset of tires, set of rims,10 $100 bills, one $5oo prize,a GM crate motor, and some small stuff. And guess what,I took home the motor.Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then.

I am glad to see some of the clubs are getting creative with their shows. I have a flyer that is for a local show coming up where the club has a door prize tree where you pick an envelope for a door prize. This stuff is supposed to be about having fun and enjoying eachothers cars but I know if there are trophys tempers will always flare. I like a good poker run but haven't been able to find any locally. They always are a blast!

Hey Bill.....there is a southeastern Bowtie show next weekend in your end of the woods open to anything Chevy or chevy powered. My 32 Ford Roadster for example was a real hit at this event a couple of years ago. I think your panel delivery would be appropriate at that show?

My wife is taking her Camaro and I am bringing the 57 as well. It's not a great big event, but the quality is superb!...and most of all the people are great!

I normally keep my ear to the ground for local shows. Where is this one? I know of the Forest Park show, the Long Creek SC show and the Ellijay fall festival show, but a Chevy show I don't know about. Besides I thought you were a "born again" Mopar man now! Ha HA! Let me know some more details! Thanks.

You gotta remember that I have a wife with a Camaro just dying to get it out, regardless of what I want. It's her weekend to choose! So...it'the Bowtie show over at the Classic Diner on Indian Trail.....east of I-85.

Like I said, the show is smallish....100+ cars or so, but this show used to be the ultimate Chevy show in the Southeast and lasted 2 days and drew a couple of hundred cars a year and was held at the Holiday Inn in Norcross (Peachtree Ind Blvd and Jimmy Carter). Now, it is relagated to just one day and at the diner. The quality is outstanding tho...

I will be there if the weather says so.

Bill.....weather not looking good for an all day outside event. I just won't sit out in the rain all day.

Maybe the cruise to Dawsonville on Saturday night. That's at 53 and 400.

Otherwise, there is a big swap meet at JR Miller park in Marrietta this weekend. I think I will at least show up on either sat or sun. Usually a good show.

Steve-
I didn't make it out until Sunday myself but then I had to deal with a hit and run (we did catch the little sob though) but that really "let the air out of my tires" so to speak. I hpe you guys have a good time at Charlotte, I bet you guys will leave a little ealy .

Hey Bill......I am so TOed at the weather guys. They said rain on and off Saturday....and what did it do.....nothing until late Saturday night. I don't mind missing the show, but the cruises I miss.....Saturday night was okay too.

I am going to Charlotte on Thursday afternoon. We are caravaning with 5 others. Haven't decided on which to take....57 or 69. I have a guy chasing for the 57 right now....wants it reeeeeeeeaaaaaal bad. Has the $$$ in hand and is willing to give me my asking price. He knows that I have others that want it too. Such a delima....do I or don't I......that is the question. I only got it out 3 times this summer and just taking up storage space at the shop. I could use the money for another project, but my wife says that I have to finish putting the details and finals on her Camaro this winter....plus my dad's 55 is coming back for rewire, glass all the way around and a few other issues. So...my winter is shot.

Anywho...going over to Canton on Saturday. 400 cars to boot and a very nice place to have a show/cruise. Lots of places to eat and so forth. If you are going....go early.

Steve- Canton!?! I haven't heard about anything at Canton but I did hear about the Forest Park open show(I guess I'm just out of the loop Ha HA!) Let me know some more details. Anyhow I thought you were going to Charlotte on Thursday- how can you be in Canton on Saturday?
As far as the 57 I don't know on that one, I guess you could take it to Charlotte with an really inflated price on it (that is of course if you want to make space) or you could keep it and let it collect dust and we know how you hate that! Another option is to sell it to the local guy to make sure it's treated well-either way I won't want to be in your shoes for that decision. I guess you do need the room unless you've got a 8 car garage! Either way I still would think the "Dodge Boys" may have someting in your future (something to consider!)
I've been talking to my dad in N.C. and he's got a kit car on a Fiero frame that sounds like fun- says it's a Lamorgini look alike- he says he's tired of it so I think I've got my winter planned also! I still need to "brighten up" my taillights on the 35 and the LED 3rd brakelight w/turnsignals sounds like a great idea.

The Canton cruise is on THIS Saturday at the Riverstone Parkway Shopping Center in Canton (one exit north of 20 on I-575 just west of the exit. Charlotte Goodguys is a week from this Friday.

The 57 guy is coming over on Friday to drive the car. I am not a motivated seller, but he wants to look and negotiate me into the mood to sell.

OOOPS! My mistake- I'm just getting too old to keep my social calendar srtaight (must be altzheimers, I dunno). The Canton thing is a possibility but unfortunately Charlotte is out. We've got last minute details to clear up on the sale of the Alpharetta store (closing is on the 31st). What time do people start showing up on Saturday in Canton? I'll probably end up there since the weather is supposed to be in the 70's.
The 57 guy sure must want to buy reeeal bad if you're not motivated and he still wants to negotiate. There's always more toys out there but man that ride is way cool (you just don't see them that clean and well thought out in the little details that make it stand out). He knows what you're "asking" for it, you just have to decide if it's time to start something new or not.
