Question for HOTRODSRJ

Here is the combination I am considering for the 383:

4 bolt main block bored 030 over, Eagle cast steel crankshaft with 6 inch H-beam rods, forged pistons, AFR 190 aluminum heads making 10.3:1 compression, Comp Cams XE268 or XE274 cam (probably the latter), Comp Cams steel 1.52 roller rockers, Edelbrock 750 carb on an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold, 1 3/4 inch headers, 700R4 transmission with 3.89 rear gears, B.F. Goodrich P285X70 rear tires.

Given the above combination, do you think I'm on the right track? Also, do you know if the XE274 cam produce enough vacuum to run power brakes?

Lynn......sounds like you have picked some pretty powerful (and expensive) stuff there. The AFRs are great heads and the combination of a XE274 with the valve lift, volumetric efficiency and compression ratios should develop a whopping 425hp ++ (paper calculation) and gobs of torque. Combine that with a 700R4 (I hope you prepared this tranny for the hp/torque) it will practically launch itself to the moon, but cruise comfortably as well.

The 274 will make enought vacuum to do power brakes, I run them on my Camaro no problem....but the 274 will not get the milage that a 268 will, be forwarned.

The XE274 has a teeth rattling sound and always turns real hotrod aficionado's heads wherever you are.
