Your problem is'nt in the rear axle, it's under the hood. Drop in a 500 Caddy and I guarantee you'll spin those tires with that anemic rear gear ratio... 8^D

Hey Dr. tell us more about the 500ci caddy. Can you buy parts for them like manifolds, headers, heads or cams for this engine? If so where would we look? Do you have a web site where you buy parts? Why would the caddy be any better than a chevy? What are the advantages of the caddy if any? I would like to run a different engine in my next project but why should I use a caddy. I know you have been wanting to sell us on that engine so now sell me or us....Razor/Ray

I love those "BIG" Caddy engines 425, 472, 500 C.I.D. Also.
yeah you can get all the speed equip. you'll ever need. Cost a little more but it sure will fill your engine Bay.I'll try to give you the URL. Hope it works. Regards, HonestFrank http//mts.simplenet.com (Max Torque Specialties) Let me know if this works.

Good job Charlie, that is a good site for sure. I think Doc must be out of town or something. I even tried to e mail him and didn't get a response....

After running the calculator it seems the best bet will be either a 3.08 or a 3.23 rear end.
Thanks, guys

Are you running a stall converter? If so, keep in mind that they can easily add 300 rpm worth of slip to your engine speed that shows on the calculator. Keep that in mind when you are deciding between the two ratios.

Hey Dr....How good is the 425 Caddy? I picked up a '77 Caddy for a $100, and the engine is a rebuilt with very few miles, but the tranny was cooked (she got stuck in the snow). I'm not looking for tire smoking performance, just a dependable cruzr. Do you know which tranny would be in this car...and would something else fit? It's a long way away from installation, just wondering if I should go thru the trouble, or get something else? Thanks.
