aluminum engine

Just got a line on an aluminum Chevy engine thats about a year old and is complete less ecm. Here's the problem.....it threw a rod but not like you would think of total destruction. The rod broke cleanly in the middle and the broken cross section punched a perfect hole thru the side of the block just above the pan rail. No water jacket, just a hole in the block at a thin spot. Can the hole be repaired without costing a fortune??

A local expert aluminum welder told me he never had an Alum. block he could'nt repair. I read in a garage repair magazine that Alum. is almost always repairable. compared to cast iron which is very difficult. make sure you get a good welder.
