Jag rear in a '34 Ford

Anyone know of a website or a magazine article that covers this conversion/installation? I finally aquired a used 4-shock Jag set-up complete with housing. Calipers and rotors are seriously whooped from exposure to the elements, so I'll also need a good source for re-do parts at (hopefully) budget prices. An exploded view of the parts would also be a great help, since I'm a total novice at car stuff. I can get the powdercoating and chroming done at dealer cost through my Harley shop, so I'm OK in that department.

I'm presently running what appears to be a '55 Chevy rear sporting home-made ladder bars, a transverse leaf, and what look like home-made coil-overs. Oh yeah, and it's a stock '34 frame with the "tails" whacked short. Basically, it looks like a high-school shop class had run amuck with a welder and no adult supervision! But hey, it's been gettin' me down the road all summer without a breakdown, so I can't really complain! Sure would like a nice soft ride for a change though. The current rear suspension's ride characteristics are equivalent to my rigid frame '47 Harley! all that was cool for a few decades, but as I get closer and closer to Social Security, and farther and farther from high-school, I'm learning to appreciate the finer things in life. Like a working spinal cord...

Seems like I saw a series done on that within the last year or maybe a bit longer (time flies when you don't have to shave every day!) in Street Rodder. Fred P

Concours West Industries is your best one stop shop. They sell rears. parts and bushed mounting kits. 714.642.9807. Their catalog has exploded view and parts. Street Rodder did a series from disassembly in March '95 to ID in April, assembly in May and final ass'y in June. You'll never get through the parking brakes without it or Concours will redo them for you. R&C covered the rear with their Mail Order Del'y in Nov. '94.

graybeard you may want to rethink the Jag rear. The rotors are not cheap (or anything on it) not much aftermarket parts avail. Also the rotors are not easy to change in the car when they do go bad.In the end it dont ride all that good unless you play with the spring rates.Hey if you got it cheap, sell it and buy some air bags.Pretty easy to hide them.(I know they look like crap on a 34) A bagged quick change would be that cats .......well you know(looks nicer than a JAG).Jags stuff is just real expensive and not much after market.(worked on jags for a lot of years) Just a thought. Look into some real old rodder mags ,they did the jag deal all the time.

Greybeard, dont know where you live but complete 80's era XJ6 Jags are $250-350 around here in New England boneyards. Most run fine but bodies rotted and wont pass inspection.
A buddy who owns a yard got me one at auction for $125.

How 'bout this? A 1989 or newer Ford t-bird/cougar rear. It's independant and cheap to buy and to rebuild. If you find a sc t-bird it'll have rear disc too. Later cougars had disc too. I'll be using one of these with air bags in my next ride. Dave

The only problem with the SC rear is they break real easy and do not hook up well(wheel hop city) I have a stock 90 sc with 2 intercoolers(14lbs of boost) thats turning 14.50's but it is a bitch to hook up.Would not use it in a rod and have several laying around. If you do use one get it out of a auto,my 5 gear has a 2:73 i think.he auto is in the 3 's. Not pretty either. They come in a SC or xr-7.
