If anyone is coming to Nats North, I just want to let ya know that I live about 15 miles away from the fairgrounds (east)and my shop is available for emergency repairs. I've got a hoist and a fair amount of tools. I'll either be parked in the grassy area by the food vendors or somewhere along the fence by the entrance. I'll have the purple '31 Chevy pickup.
Also, a couple of us are going to cruise out to Doc's junkyard Saturday morning. The last day he's going to be open will be Sept 29 and after that the crusher is coming in to crush everything. I've been scrounging for odd parts & wall hangers for the garage while it's still there and taking pictures. I've kind of become attached to the old place. If anyone wants to go along you're welcome. Its about 15-20 miles west of Kalamazoo.
Howcome they're all getting crushed? Looks like a lot of good vintage tin there...I wouldn't mind if it was all late model stuff getting the hammer.

Doc, the guy that used to run the yard died and the estate sold the yard two years ago to someone who plans to plot it off and build houses to sell. There's a nice river flowing thru it and it will probably make nice building sites. The present owner has kept it open for two years and its getting to the point that he needs to start showing something for his investment. He's been making a pretty big mortgage payment plus upkeep on the equipment, etc and not many people are buying parts. He's run ads but it doesn't seem to increase his sales. I'm over there most weekends and have collected a lot of stuff that would have been real hard to find otherwise. Most of the cars are pretty rusty and basically just junk but there is still a lot of good trim, windows, and misc parts if a person wants to dig for them. The buildings still have quite a bit of stuff in them too. He got a pretty good price from the scrap iron guys so he feels its time to move on.
He's been selling parts for a fair price but a lot of people feel he should be selling at scrap prices since its going to be crushed anyway. He did pay for the inventory when he bought the yard and is trying to get something back for his investment and keep the parts available to those that need them. There are a few of us that have been pretty good customers that he will probably give real good deals on whatever we want just before the crusher comes. He could have just crushed everything two years ago without the hassle of keeping it open and I give him credit for sitting on it for the time he has. He isn't a car guy but I think he has learned to appreciate us gearheads a little more in the last couple of years.

I'll be in Kzoo early Thursday afternoon and will be hanging out in the host hotel parking lot. I'll wear my yellow Back to the 50's hat so I'm easy to spot. Let's pick a meeting time and place for Friday inside the fairgrounds for those that want to meet up. How about high noon on the right side of Wings DJ trailer. Any other suggestions? Looking forward to meeting some new SRS buds in person and saying hi to old ones!!

WE will there late Fri. afternoon. Don't know what we'll be driving yet. Either a black, flamed 32 cabriolet hiboy, or a bright blue 32 sedan delivery. Depends on the weather. I hope it's better than this weekend.

I'll be in a white 37 Ford ragtop with a maroon top. Our club always parks on the grassy area behind Wings trailer.

2 old guys in levis and car t-shirts, shouldn't be too hard to spot!!! LOL I'll stop and say hi.
Ray, sorry your not making it this year. :( You'll be missed. I'll catch up with you and Fred at the Turkey Rod Run in Nov though. Haven't bought anything yet. Almost came close with a 37 Downs body 3 window ragtop project but I wouldn't have had enough money to finish it. A good buddy of mine ended up buying it, it was a good deal and he has the money and skills to finish it right. I'm going to 3 very large shows outside of MI before the year is up so maybe something will become available.
Johnny Walker, I can't seem to find your number. Call me when you get a chance.

Denise, I can't believe your still rod-less girl!
My bud just sold his 47 Chevy 'vert project. I didn't even know he was selling. It's on my freinds rides on my website. Needed only paint & interior to finish. Several body mod including a working chopped folding top, pie cut hood, etc. etc. Had I known he was going to sell, I would have contacted you. Had I known he was going to sell for $21,000, I may have even bought it and finished it myself!
The other project 47 w/BBC power I told you about is still for sale as of last weekend.

Hi Charlie, At no point did I ever imagine I would be rod-less for almost 14 months!! Have come close on a couple but they really weren't what I wanted and I don't feel I should settle for less than what I want. Have a good time in Rhinebeck and say hi to Bill and Janice for me. If you see a red 47 Chevy with a black ragtop, chopped, smooth with a laid back windshield, (it will have NY plates on it)PLEASE try to convince the guy, his name is Carl, to sell it to me!!! You have my authority to propose marriage to the guy for me!!! LOL
To our Canadian streetrodder buddys: If your coming across the tunnel or bridge from Windsor to Detroit to get to Kzoo this weekend plan on a minium of 3 hours to get thru customs, 12 hours for trucks. They say its a 20 mile backup and they are asking all who cross for photo ID and are searching most cars. Just wanted to let you know so you could plan your trip accordingly. Drive safe
