Wow, great question. Glad I personally don't have to make that decision. If the show goes on, will Goodguys be labled "insensitive"? At what point do you say, "life needs to get back to normal"? Or as normal as things are going to get in the months ahead. Rhinebeck is alot closer to ground zero as say Kzoo, MI. Should NSRA cancel their show? Whether it's cancelled or not, people will still arrive. In my personel opinion, neither show should be cancelled.

NASCAR adjusts New Hampshire schedule
By Dave Rodman, Turner Sports Interactive
September 12, 2001
12:10 AM EDT (0410 GMT)
ATLANTA -- While the United States and the entire world reeled from the ferocity of an unprecedented assault by terrorists Tuesday morning, NASCAR race tracks across the country contemplated changes to events scheduled this weekend.
NASCAR officials Tuesday evening announced that activities scheduled for Friday at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon -- including Bud Pole Award Qualifying for Sunday’s NASCAR Winston Cup New Hampshire 300 -- have been cancelled.
The 43-car field for Sunday’s 300-lap event, the 27th in the 36-race season, will be set according to the 2001 NASCAR Winston Cup Series rule book.
“Our country has experienced a terrible tragedy today,” NASCAR president Mike Helton said. “All of the NASCAR community offers our sincerest sympathies to all those who have suffered losses. We will continue to monitor and evaluate this situation and make the appropriate decisions as the week progresses.”
As of Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday track activities at NHIS remain unchanged.
Meanwhile, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ Silverado 350 scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway remains on schedule, TMS president Eddie Gossage said Tuesday evening.
"We are all deeply saddened by this national tragedy and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families," Gossage said. "We have been in discussions with both the Indy Racing League and NASCAR and are discussing the possible options. At this time, we are moving ahead as planned for the Chevy 500 race week events."
A final decision on the status of the RPM Week-Texas events will be announced on Wednesday.
There are several events scheduled for the Chevy 500 race week including the Silverado 350 and the Chevy 500 Indy Racing Northern Light Series season finale on Sunday. The Dallas Morning News Pole Day is Friday, with qualifying for both series.
The Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track is also scheduled to host three nights of racing with the Pennzoil World of Outlaws O'Reilly Texas Showdown on Friday and Saturday and the UDTRA Wolf Brand Chili Challenge on Thursday.
NASCAR canceled its regular Tuesday afternoon Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series media teleconference “due to the tragic events of this morning.”
The Thursday NASCAR Touring track activity at NHIS was canceled Tuesday night by track officials, NHIS public relations director Fred Neergaard said. Practice and Bud Pole Qualifying for the Busch North Series and Featherlite Modified Series will be held Friday. The races will be held as scheduled Saturday afternoon.

CHEVY 500 TO TAKE PLACE WITH REVISED SCHEDULE
Race on schedule, qualifying canceled, practice sessions set for
Saturday, Sunday
INDIANAPOLIS, Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001 - The Chevy 500 Indy
Racing Northern Light Series event will take place this weekend with a
revised schedule, officials from the Indy Racing League, NASCAR and
Texas Motor Speedway announced today.
The season-ending Chevy 500 will start as scheduled at 3:30 p.m.
(CDT) Sunday. A practice session from 10-10:30 a.m. will precede the
race that day.
Though NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice and other Texas Motor
Speedway activities will take place Friday, MBNA Pole Qualifying has
been canceled. The field will be set by entrant points, according to
Indy Racing League rules. 2001 Indy Racing Northern Light Series
champion Sam Hornish Jr., who drives for entrant points leader Panther
Racing, will start from the pole.
An open Indy Racing practice session will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
(CDT) Saturday. The Silverado 350 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race
will start as scheduled at 3 p.m. Saturday.
"Our thoughts, prayers and sympathy are with everyone affected by the
tragedy Tuesday in New York and Washington," said Tony George, president
and CEO of the Indy Racing League. "We will race at Texas with sadness
and compassion for those who are suffering across the country and around
the world due to these events, and we think that this abbreviated
schedule is the proper way to carry on during this very difficult time.
President George Bush has kept the offices of government open and has
pledged that 'the American economy will be open for business.' In this
spirit, we are moving forward."

I surmize some of the race and sporting event cancelations were because of the disrupted airtravel. since the NSRA and GOODGUY Etc events are drive to [tow to] Idon't think they should be canceled.

CHEVY 500 POSTPONED UNTIL OCT. 6
by nitrofc
Posted: 09/13/2001 16:05 EST
The Chevy 500 Indy Racing Northern Light Series event has been postponed until Saturday, Oct. 6, officials from the Indy Racing League and Texas Motor Speedway
announced today.
The season-ending Chevy 500 will start at 3 p.m. (CDT) Oct. 6 and be televised live on ESPN2. Further details of the event schedule will be announced at a later date. "Due to the postponement and cancellation of other events around the country, we have decided that it would be best to delay our race in Texas," said Brian Barnhart, Indy Racing League vice president of operations. "We have consulted closely with Texas Motor Speedway and
NASCAR officials over this decision."
Earlier it was announced that the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Silverado 350, scheduled for this weekend at TMS, would be rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. (CDT) Oct. 5.
"We are asking our teams and our fans to join Americans everywhere in remembering those who lost their lives in the terrible terrorist attack on the United States early this week," Barnhart said. "Our thoughts, prayers and sympathy remain with everyone affected by the tragic events."
Plans for the Indy Racing League Awards Ceremony, which was to take place Sept. 17 in Texas, will be announced later.

I agree Denise. Hotrodders are the best people in the world. We all know that. What better time to pull together?
I know Sunday service will be packed at Rhinebeck. I even plan to shag my lazy butt outta bed for it!

I totally agree with Grumpy on his point. After soaking in ten hours of the the tragedy in NY, I went into my garage and started detailing my hot rod, no radio or music. Just polishing and thinking to myself. I just became oversaturated by all that was happening.
I believe a good ol' car show is just what the doctor ordered! There will still be talk about the tragedy, but looking at some cool cars will help sort things out and help bring life back into perspective.

The fairgrounds may not be able to reschedule the show like say a race track that sits empty most of the time. They may be booked with events. Also, since it's short notice, people might travel the whole way anyhow, and find out the gates are shut. Not an ideal situation to observe respect for the victums.
They should have the show and observe a moment of silence on Saturday or something. They could even have raffles, donations, etc. to help the relief fund. I hope they can do something possitive to help out, as most of the rodding community is awefully careing.
