Headlite mounts

Bought a set of stainless hiboy headlite mounts, having a hard time getting them to fit.My shocks are protruding about 1/4 in. above the shock mount, therefore the bracket won't go over the shock. These are like the mounts that the duece factory sells, bolt thru the shock.I was thinking of buying new (boxed) shock brackets. That would solve my problem(I think). But I hate to cut off a good bracket.Maybe machine the mounts to fit? Then there is the So-cal mounts...$125.00.Any suggestions,Thanks.

The way you describe it it sounds like the shock itself is incompatible with the mount, not the shock mount.
If you are going to machine some changes into it, you have access to a mill.. why not just mkae a pair that fit for yourself?
A picture would answer a lot of questions about your question...

One more option
The headlight stands on my truck were broken when I got the truck and replacements were scarce and expensive so I made copies of the stands in wax and cast them in marine grade bronze. I blackend mine with gun metal bluing but you could plate bronze. Cost to me (a decade ago) was about $1.50
You could make up what you need in wax and cast them in your comunity college foundry. Heck make a dozen at a pour and sell the extras!

I hate to sound stupid but I can't find a web page for the "Duece Factory". I will be looking for the same thing very soon for my '32 HB. If not a web page maybe a phone number? I would like an alternative to the SoCal. Thanks

Why don't you try another approach? Yogi's (as well as others) sells a headlight mount that fits into the sides of a '32 grill shell. I am using them on my '32 project and they work and look really slick. That way you will not have the hassle of mounting them on your shock mounts and the wiring is concealed within the shell.

Money pit!! They tend to do that, don't they? Every year I made some sort of improvement on my roadster. I hate to think how much money I actually put into it over the years. But it did bring a good price when I sold it. I am keeping track of all the expenditures on an Excel program for the new car. It will be interesting to see how close it comes in to my actual estimate.

Don't forget to add up all the awards ,-thumbs-up ,good feelings you had while tooling down the hi-way. All the fun times and great comments like" nice rod ". I don't think you can put a price on that and money won't buy it. RP peggys other half

Sounds to me like a pair of shorter shocks would have been a lot cheaper. Most tire houses have catalogs that cross reference part numbers to lengths. But then its your "money pit" not mine.

I'm interested in how a transaction of a fairly large amount of money for the sale of a rod is handled IRS wise by both the buyer and seller. I've heard that anything over $10,000 is reported by the bank to the IRS.....Personally, I don't think it's any of their business but if you have to pay taxes on say $35,000, thats a lot of taxable income when added to the normal years income. Does one just suck it up and pay the taxes or.....?
I realize that no one would want to respond to this in the 1st person so let's assume a hypothetical situation here..Fred P

You don't pay taxes on the money you receive from the sale of your vechile to someone else. The purpose of reporting deposits of more then $10,000 is, for the most part, to try to prevent laundrying of "dirty" money. I have sold a number of cars and have deposited the money in my account. On the form the teller fills out you just put in there that you sold a car. Plain and simple as that. I've never gotten a letter or call from Uncle Sam regarding these transactions. No where on the form do they ask who the buyer of the car was. If you buy and sell alot of cars throughout the year, they might start getting suspicious about the transactions. If you've got nothing to hide then it's no big deal. The only taxes you will pay on the money is the tax on the interest at the end of the year. Trust me, it doesn't add up to much!!! LOL

Thanks, Denise. It's costing me more to build the next car than the money I got for the sale of the old one. If I had to pay taxes on that money I could not afford a decent start on a new one.
