I was just wondering if anyone here still has their first car. I'm 54 years old and still have my first car. It is a'48 chev coupe. I bought the car from a friend of mine in 1965 when I was in high school for $12.00 and drove it home.( he wanted $15.00 ) It was painted 2 years earlier and was in really nice shape. I drove it for a while but found a 57 chev that I just had to have so I parked the 48 behind the barn and it sat for about 20 years. During that time the squirrels got into it and totally destroyed the interior. I finally decided to do something with the car so I went back home and hauled it to my present home. (only about 3 hours away ). Again it sat for many years. One day about 2 years ago some of my auto tech students asked if I had something they could work on between projects. (my classroom policy- no work-no grade) I told them if they wanted a real project, that I would bring in a "real project". They fell in love with it. Right know it is probobly still a year from being driven on the road but it is a lot closer than it was 2 years ago. It is on a 1983 chev caprice chassis. They rebuilt a 350 and installed it. Power steering, power brakes, tilt steering and 4-speed are all in place. Sometimes it sits for weeks without being worked on and when I open the shop on weekends and evenings for the kids to come in, I work on it. I do tell the students that they are not required to work on my car only if they want to. Just one of the bennies of being an auto tech teacher. We also move the car out of the shop every day when no one is working on it so that it doesn't take up a space that a student could be using. Since I had this car in high school, I told the kids that if the car starts talking that they are not to believe any thing that it says because it because 48 chevs had a habit of lying and making up stories. I really don't think they believed me. Don

Still got mine. It is a 47 DeSoto convertible that passed down from sister to older brother finally to me. My older brother in the process of being a teenager in the late fifties put many dents and dings on it. When I got it I followed in his footsteps, tipping it on it side after a trip to state basketball tournament, no one hurt just a cut lip very lucky. My dad was a auto body repairman so he got it fixed and looking ok again Then in 1966 I got rear ended by a 54 chevy pushing the trunk up to the back window. This time I stored it away in a barn for the next 20 years. In 1987 I dug it out of the barn and proceeded to try to bring it back to life again. Talk about a mounemental task it took me a year to just find someone to tackle the pushed in rear end, but a guy I worked with took it on. I found a parts car luckily in southern Iowa, another 47 DeSoto convert ,total rust but a usable rear clip so he mated the two together straightened it out the best he could and painted it. From then on it's been a constant search for parts and stuff ,but I would'nt trade the experience for anything. Last winter I put in a 318 Plymouth engine and drivetrain and I am continually improving it every year. Not a show car but a pretty good driver and everytime I drive It anywhere it brings back many fond memories and also gets a few looks because it so different. I'm glad I am kind of a packrat otherwise I probably would have junked it out in 1967 and missed out on the fun and challenge of bringing it back

I wish I still had mine. It was a 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88, complete with in-dash 8-track and a big ol' 455.
Boy I miss that car.
Oddly enough, my fathers first car was a 1948 Packard, the same kind I now own.

Just hauled mine away, March of this year. Talk about feeling sick! 76 F100. I bought it as a farm truck when I waws 14, I rolled it at age 15(still no license). Took only a week for me, my brother, and my father to change out the cab, hood and bed. I filled all molding holes, the mirror holes and the stake bed holes myself in HS ag shop. I changed out the engine and tranny twice(1st time a used engine, 2nd time the engine I built over the years). I had it ready to paint when I went away to basic training, my dad took it and got it painted while I was in Ft Benning GA. Charchol Metallic Blue! Two years ago, my sister rolled it while I was trying to teach her to drive. I still have the engine, which might actually go into the 35 instead of the 49.

1966 Mustang, 289, 3 speed, Pony interior. Paid $1400 for it in 1981 with 148,000 miles. Now has 210,000 on it with 2 paint jobs and overhauled engine and various other "stuff" done to it. Kind of just a good old car when I bought it and still a good old car, too bad it doesn't get used more.

I'm only 29, so it's not quite as remarkable as some of you, but my 34 Plymouth is my first. And, I never want to sell. it. That was the whole intention from day one. Iv'e heard too many stories over the years about that car that got away, or, I wish I could have my car back. So, I'm always gonna keep the Plymouth, and buy and sell all the others.

You could't give me the 64 corvair that I had as my first car!!!! It was a bathtub on wheels! Now my second car a 1971 SS camaro is a whole different story- I'd pay just about anything to have that car back.

I WISH I still had my first car. It was a '67 Pontiac Beaumont SD 396. It was the Canadian version of a Chevelle........only different grill, emblems and a few other details. What a car! 375 horses, 400 Turbo, 12 bolt posi, wheelcovers and whitewalls. The only give-away that it had power was the two bumps on the hood. All factory original!
The year? 1976 I bought it for $500 CDN. That is about $3 in real US money! ha!
Oh, what I would give to do it over again.................

Well, my first car was a '41 Dodge 4 door ('61)
Next was a '55 DeSoto followed by a '39 Dodge pick-up that wound up with the DeSoto's engine and trans. That was -62 and '63, respectively. Then I got my '34 in June of '64. I still have it. Paid $125.00 for it.
