Interior questions/material suppliers?

Have finally got my 37 sedan ready for upholstery!!Due to the unreasonable prices and the lack of mental stability displayed by most of the shops in my area,I and a buddy of mine(who can run a sewing machine without stitching his fingers together)have decided to give it a try ourselves. We have both witnessed many interiors being installed but have never attempted it before. The first obstacle is finding a material supplier.I want to do a leather interior but would also like to use some"ultra leather"in a few areas but would need to have it match the leather.Any recomendationas to where to purchase materials would be greatly appreciated! Also would love to hear from anyone who has done thier own interior or perhaps someone is in the upholstery business and could give some helpfull advise. Also if you have any web adresses that would be helpfull, please pass them along!I am attempting this out of frustration with the shops that have done the last few cars in our area, not because I want another challenge in my life at my age!!!Any and all suggestions/advise will be greatly appreciated SO.....LET'S HEAR IT!!! See Ya!!

You should be able to buy the actual material from a upholsetry shop for not much more than their cost. Doesnt take much talent for them to unroll the material and cut with scissors. They should be able to get that right at least.
If not, hobby stores sell material, as does stores where seamstresses buy cloth.

good luck with your interior, sounds like you have lots of guts to try leather on your first attempt. It is a long way from you, but you might want to call Three Rivers Supply Co. in Pittsburgh, Pa. 412-462-3900. They supply the shops in the Eastern Ohio/ Western Pa area and will sell to individuals. We have bought naugahyde, carpeting, and supplies from them.

Quick hint, just don't use the Ultra Leather on the seating surface of the seats. The owner of Portage Trim in Ravenna, OH, who I was talking to at the Nats in Louisville, told me that. Material is not strong enough to withstand the abuse if your ride is a "driver". He had some really nice man made material there that he showed me that I couldn't tell wasn't real leather. He said it was a much better material then Ultra Leather, which I always thought was pretty awesome till he showed me this stuff. I don't remember the "old" guys name but his number is 800 728 2409. He was a very patient guy and answered all my questions. I'm sure if you have any direct questions, he'd be happy to answer them. By the way, this is the shop that all my buds here in Michigan use. He does wonderful work and has a great reputation.

If you want to use real leather, I got mine from - Danny Brown. He is in Gardner Kansas. Don't know if his price has gone up or not because of the shortage due to hoof and mouth thing over in England or not. I paid $150.00 a hide and it took 8 hides to do my 36 Ford 2- dr. sedan. But I covered everything you could see in the car. His phone # is area code 913-8845930.
