I have a chance to pick up a set of 62 Buick aluminum brake drums for $50. Sounds like a good deal if the drums are in fact servicable. Does anyone know if this is a good price and what the servicable drum ID range is?
As I recall, these drums can be used with both 40-48 Ford anf 50s F-100 brakes. Some modifications are required to get this all together. Does anyone know where I can find the details?
The June 01 STEET ROD BUILDER has an article about adapting the complete 58-59-60 Buick brake assembly using a $500 kit from Walden Speed Shop in Texas. The Hot Rod Shop in Idaho sells a pair of adaptor rings for $125 but does not specify what year assemblies will work. Any one here had experience with these products or with adapting Buick brakes/drums to 40-48 Ford spindles?

Thanks Red,
A net friend is sending me the Street Rodder articles. The first set of drums were too beat up to use on a street rod. I've got a lead on some more up in the hills. I'll go junking when the frost kills the weeds and sends the chiggers, ticks, and snakes into hibernation.

Seems like Street Rodder did an article about milling out the centers of the Buick finned drums and pressing the finned portion over a standard drum. It took a bit of maching work but was worth it in the end as you ended up with more more modern (new) drums with the neat finned look. Maybe someone will remember the article and be able to find it.. Good luck Fred P
