Has anyone every used rubber bumpers instead of lacing on your cowl? If so did they give you any problems?
Thanks Mike

Hi Mike,I have used both the glue on and the ones that have a nipple and require that you drill a pilot hole to push the nipple thru. These work best as I have tried several types of adhesive on the glue-on type but have had trouble with them sliding around when the weather gets extremely hot.Hope this helps! See Ya!!

What I have on the 35 is the cloth side of velcro. You can dye it to match your paint but the downside is if you don't use the right adhesive it'll slip when it gets hot.

35delivery: What kind of glue did you use for the velcro? Do you need to remove the peel and stick glue on the back first? I have the fuzzy side and also found the glue gets all mushy in the heat. I like the looks, though, when it's stuck on straight.

Don-I started with the original adhesive...that didn't work well as you know. I've gone to 3M spray adhesive for trim and that seems to work well...won't slip under "warm" conditions.

I like the cloth factory style webbing. With the factory style attachments and hooks on each end, once it is on you have no problems. Helps with the proper alignment of the hood too. I do not know if it is as available for Plymouths as it is for Fords. My two cars are steel Fords , 1932 and a 1940. They make about everything for them. I guess if you had a glass body, you would have to improvise something. I do not know. The only fiberglass cars I have owned were Corvettes.

Mike, it was posted earlier on another post by MikeJ, check out Soffseal, They have all kinds of weather striping and stuff that you need. Call them at 1-800-426-0902 or on line at www.soffseal.com and you can get a sample pak from them. Just another place to check. Bill

Thanks for the input everyone. I have made my 4 piece hood a three piece hood by mounting the side panels to the car and welding the hood halfs together and I made the hood open up backwards so this leaves the cowl area right out in the open. So I have been cutting seams apart and welding them back together after lining them up better and I had to make a panel to cover up the area where the hinge mount was and weld that in. Being the cowl is so visible now I just want to make sure I use the right bumpers or lace. My experience with lace or rubber stick on seals is that unless it is in a track it moves and doesn't stay straight. The car had the nail on lace and I can still get it but I was thinking about trying rubber bumpers that get pushed through a hole then I know they would stay where I put them. Oh ya making my hood one piece by welding in a filler strip and keeping everything the correct shape was quit a job. I made a wooden jig to hold everthing together at the proper shape. It turned out good. If you are almost bald you will be completly bald after this project.
Thanks Mike

I don't now Phil but I am going to find out. I worked on the car all day today and found out I have to cut the hood apart and make a adjustment and weld it back together. This has been a project!! My hair line in not to far back but by the time I get this done I should look like the Wolfman or Telli Savalis

I used rubber bumpers from Steele Rubber Products. I first had the original factory rubber seal on the cowl of my '40 Buick coupe, also from Steele. I was,at the time, running a 472 Caddy engine and needed to get some of the heat out of the engine compartment. I removed the factory cowl seal and replaced it with rubber bumpers. It has been that way for about 3 years, works great for me. It does let water get in the engine compartment when you wash the car, but its not too bad. The factory seal didn't let water under the hood at the cowl, but I still prefer the rubber bumpers despite this problem. I removed the 472 and installed a new crate 350 also, which all but eliminated the heating problems. Hope this helps...PACO
