Dash Plaques what do you do with yours??
by KustomLincolnLady
Posted: 07/21/2002 13:10 EST

I was just putting away the dash plaques from the last few weekends and was wondering what everyone does with theirs??

I put ours in the old type (sticky) photo albums. Were on our second album and the first one must weight 30 lbs, lol. We have a few stuck to cabinets in the garage, but if you move you can't get them off.

Just thought it would be a fun thing to see others ideas!!

Most are stuck in a 8x10' frame that once was up on my bedroom wall above my head (recently took it down for fear it was gonna come down on me and just might bring the wall with it as heavy as it was). The rest are scattered all over the place. Some in photo albums (must way 50 pounds each) and the rest are packed in my dresser drawer (thus the reason the dresser must way 500 pounds + with only the plaques in it..LOL).They just keep on comin' too!

So far to date I have at least one from each of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Japan and Europe. Whoever thought of the Dash Plaque Toss game at carshows and rod runs is a genius!

I take those magnetic calendars, business cards, and whatever else is made on the flexible magnets, cut them down to size, and use double stick tape to stick them to the back of the dash plaque. Then, I use them for refrigerator magnets. I've noticed that some shows are already making them on the magnetic material, which makes more sense to me.

Debb, the Dash Plaque Toss game is nothing more then a bunch of dash plaques scattered all over the ground/floor (if your indoors). Object is to toss a quarter and if it lands square on a dash plaque (club supplys plaques...usually old plaques from shows in the past that they dont want anymore) you get that plaque and the money goes to the club/org. (only show I know that does this is a local indoor one the first weekend in December, every cent from the entry fee, food games etc.. goes to the Johns Hopkins Children Center here in Baltimore).

It's fun..and boy is it ever addictive! Every year, all year long I'm saving every quarter I can find just for this. LOL

As you keep winning they'll re-stock the floor.

I've got one building, my shop, that should have a "biohazard" placard by the entrance. The other, where I store my "almost completed projects" I try to keep fairly neat. One wall is kind of a shrine to my addiction, I've got shelves of trophies (remember those things) from drag racing, car shows and old rod runs and a few 8x10s of some of my nicer rods and I have a piece of Formica about four foot square and I put all the dash plaques on with two sided tape. It's a trip down memory lane just looking at that occasionally.

since I've been doing mostly local shows only for about 5 years I don't have as many as it sounds like some of you do. We've finally got a game room with a pool table and lots of shelves for my collections. There is an overhead cabinet above the bar and I've stuck all my dash plaques on the end of that cabinet, and will eventually move to the end of the bar as more space is needed.

I have put mine on my folding picnic table. I took the adhesive off of the back (because of some kind of chemical reaction with the acrylic). Put them on the table and pour some of that acrylic stuff they use on bar and table tops. You have to be real careful at first because they tend to float to the top of the liquid. After it solidify's a bit you can push them back down with a stick pin so that you don't leave a hole in the drying acrylic. I'm going to try and post 2 pictures but have never tried it before on this board. Just in case I'm sending the pic's to HRPP and hoping George will help me out if it don't work.

Here's your table, Bob. That's a good idea.

All my dash plaques are in a box in the garage. I'll bet there's a hundred in there. I really should do something with them....some are really nice designs.

20 years of roddin' and 10 years of the ever popular dash plaque toss game at carshows did it for me. LOL

Isn't that the table I sat on at Goodguys in Indy?? Rob has been wanting to do something with that stuff, like the tables you see at Joe's crab shack (if you've ever been to one) but we couldn't find the right stuff.
What and where did you get it Bob??
thanks

Thanks George. Wish I could remember how to do that. I have it stored on my puter but can't get it from where it is to that little box on the bottom, can't evenfind the URL but thats prolly cause its on MY puter. Tried to copy and past but that didn't work either.

Yeah Deb that's the table you sat at in Indy. I don't remember the name of the stuff but I think I got it at a Ben Franklin store.

I started out putting them on a plexiglass board & carried it to the shows. Once the board got full I started sticking them to the cabnet doors in the garage.
My buddy sticks them to old car parts - started with a T-bucket windshield, moved onto a sedan delivery rear door and so on - I think you get the idea. once it gets full he hangs it up in the garage.

Believe it or not, on an earlier car with a flat dash panel, I stuck the...."dash plaques".... on the dash. Since that's what they were called and I was still a bit wet behind the brain...... eventually I sold the car and wanted to keep the plaques and a friend recommended using a hair drier to soften the adhesive and the plaques almost fell off. They ended up decorating (?) my roll around tool box.
Kinda mix em with the decals lol FredP

so whats wrong with primer?

I picked up a book that was meant to hold business cards. It worked fine till everyone started going to larger plaques a few years back. Now thet just get piled in a box.
We're doing something a little different for our show this year. Our dash plaque is 3" X 5" and instead of being metal it's made on a flexible magnetic backing. Made with any photo you desire. It's something different for around here.

I put each years' plaques on a large plaque and display them. I try to mix up the styles I put them on. Some clear, some wood, one year is even on my original wind pan from my Plymouth. THey are proudly displayed in my office. I might try making a trophy out of this years.

I just have them in a drawer. I do have a lot of the adhesive backed magnetic material that you guys werte talking about. Most is business card sized but I do have some as large as 6X9 if there's a need...you know the rest.

My toolbox is covered with them. I like the magnetic ones too, much easier to move.
