WOW, did I just learn a lesson!
by hotrodladycrusr

I just got off the phone with my insurance agent. She said she just got a phone call from Hagerty in regards to me and wanted to know if I drove Big Olds 16,500 miles this year! First of all, her and I got it straight that I DON'T have a milage limit BUT that they CAN reject me if they think I'm not a good "risk". In other words, they don't want to insure folks that ACTUALLY drive their hot rods!

I have my "updated" profile on here and the HAMB. The one that had the "typo" in it that wrongly stated the milage. It should have stated 6,500!! I just took out all referance to milage all together. STUPID of me to even think that matters in a profile. I have learned my lesson.

I have also learned that I believe there is a "snich" either here or on the HAMB that RAN to Hagerty with the info. Hard to believe they have an employee at Hagerty that spends all day surfing the net looking for their insured rods to see if they can "catch" them doing something wrong. Can't prove it, doesn't matter, done and over with. My premium is due next month. I will gladly pay it cuz it is the best deal in town and will hope that they "accept" Big Olds to insure.

I will NEVER answer any insurance questions here or to my personal e-mail again. I HAVE LEARNED MY LESSON and will keep my big mouth shut in the future regarding such matters.

WOW! You mean they realy gave you a hard time? What's up with that? If there's no limit, they can kiss my..... I don't get it. There's more to it than that. I mean, it'an automobile. Streetrod or not, it's a car. Car's are meant to be DRIVEN!

I find it hard to believe that someone is such a LOOSER that they'd do that to you, snitch. ( I don't think I'd call it that, 'cause you didn't do anything wrong) I REALLY hope not, but, if so, whoever you are, you're scum and need a life.

Sorry to hear about the grief!

You know denise when you were talking about that here the thought did cross my mind. What if someone read it, kinda like the cobra story.
But, you have to figure that those people are car people, just like us, no matter what line of work they do. and are prob members of some of the same things we are.
HOPE YOU HAVE IT ALL WORKED OUT OK!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Debb as it crossed my mind also. Especially after the Cobra Mustang ordeal. Some nerds don't have anything better to do then pry in other peoples business and take it upon themselves to try and cause problems for us. Wouldn't ya just like to catch one of em once and pop em like a pimple ?

Denise, hard to believe that someone has so much time on there hands they need to make life miserable for others. But they DO exist. Hope it all works out for you.
46DRIVER, HERE - HERE!! I'll agree to that sentiment. I have had nothing but grief from mt insurance company dealing with a resent auto theft. They forse you to have it, and then decide what and if they are goinf to pay out!
Rates keep climbing and service keeps sliding. My personal view, they have lost investments in the stock market and to cover there nut they just "boost the rates across the board" blaming the rising claims.....yea right.

Denise, I've got Hagerty too and last week when the insurance post was going, I checked rates online at Grundy and Hagerty with exactly the same criteria and Grundy was quite a bit cheaper. It might be time to shop around.

The lesson you learned is that nothing is private on the internet.

No mileage limit as long as you've got a daily driver you use for work and stuff. I'd be interested to see if other people get the same results I did with the quotes. I think I checked my truck and one of my projects for a total of $25000 and Grundy was cheaper by $50 or so. I don't know anything about them because I've been with Hagerty for years. Back when I first got rod insurance Hagerty was one of just a few that insured rods and back then they were the best bang for your buck. There's more companies now. I'm probably going to shop around again just to see how things compare. Grundy's website is http://www.grundy.com/ and Hagerty's is http://www.hagerty.com/ .

I've been with Grundy for about 3-years now without any hassles, but I haven't had a claim either. I guess that would be the real test.

I was looking into insureing with Gundy. They wanted to know if it was in a locked cement garage with alarm. I said yes,,,,,yea right,,,,I asked if they covered the car if it was out of the state because I went to a lot of car shows and did KKOA inspections at them. When SHE heard that, she says "Oh you use it for bussiness?" and promptly hung up! So much for Grundy! Dave

I have used Hagerty for a long time, but when we insured the 46 ford ,stated it as modified, thay insured it,but it cost more than the Mach-1,that is insured for 50% more value, and is muchhhhhhh quicker.

You know Denise when I was reading that post I thought to myself, that was not a good thing to put it all out in public as to many people use the internet now. Your personal business should be kept to your self for just the reason of what happened. Sorry 'bout that, hope you get it resolved. AS they say "don't wave your dirty laundry..." and "what they don't know won't hurt them".

There was no "dirty laundry" to wave. Rereading the post it was kind of a joke the way I stated "when you call them, don't tell them I put on x amount of miles"....etc. Hagerty HAS NO mileage limit but they also get to pick and choose who they want to insure. Unlike other regular car insurance companies that, by law, have to accept you if you "qualify" for their insurance, they can deny you for any reason they choose.

I've always been a huge fan of Hagerty and have sung their praises for years. Big Olds is my third streetrod with them. Because I had 2 huge claims with them, I had to go thru an acceptance process with them when I wanted to insure Big Olds. It took about 10 days and I wasn't even sure if they we're going to approve me.

I guess because I feel so at home here I'm alittle more open on this site then I should be but after almost three years here I think of the folks here as very good friends and sometimes forget that we have lurkers here that we don't know. Am I going to change my ways and not be so "open" in the future? Probley not, it's not my "style". I will think twice though, about the content that I'm commenting on to make sure there's not a chance of it coming back to me in the future to bite me in the rear.

As far as folks that are looking around for insurance companies right now, seems to be quite a few here who are, I still say give Hagerty a shot. They do pay claims in a timely and fair manner. Something that I haven't heard anyone say about Grundy yet. I know no one personally that has Grundy. Has anyone here filed a claim with them?

My yearly premium with Hagerty is due the middle of next month. I'll be sending them my check and hopeing for the best. I really like them and want to stay there but I will not change my driving habits to suit an insurance company. If I have to find another insurance company that suits my driving style better, well then, I guess that's what I'll have to do. In my opinion, Hagerty should be giving me free insurance for all the folks I send their way. :))

A couple of folks mentioned in e-mail that Hagerty might just do a search of their name every now and then to see what comes up and that's probley want happened. Checking back, I've never mentioned Hagerty on the HAMB, so I know it didn't come from there. It was probley that thread here a few days ago where I MISTAKENLY put in the wrong yearly mileage. TYPOS happen all the time, right??? Just another reason why we need that edit feature here! LOL :))))

I usually have anywhere from 3 to 6 cars insured with them at any given time and since I haven't figured out how to drive more than 1 at a time and usually 1/2 are incomplete projects...just tell them I'm giving you some of my unused mileage!!

I am going with the theory that it was all of the television exposure of Big Olds in different cities that caught Hagerty's eye......
