Another cool Web site!

Since people have been talking about cool web sites, here's one I spend alot of time checking out.

http://www.drive-ins.com/

Enter your zip code in the search and it will give you a list of drive in theatres close to you. Open or closed. Wondering about that drive in your parents took you to as a child? Search for it here. There's alot to see here. Do yourself a favor and check it out. One of the local guys bought the Judy Drive-In in Mt Sterling Ky. and I'm in the process of working out a deal to do a couple pre movie cruises for him next summer.

Have your kids or grandkids had the experience of going to the Drive In yet?

All but one Drive-in are gone from Long Island. The amount of money the land the drive ins sat on was worth more then they could generate in ticket sales and concession sales, etc. in 10 years or more. A friend tried to get the Rocky Point Drive in only to be out bid by a two story Golf driving range.
The same thing happened with race tracks here on the Island. At one time or other we had 20 different tracks from wood oval tracks to 1/4 mile drag strips to the Bridge Hampton Road course. Only tracks remaining are Riverhead 1/4 mile oval and soon to be shut down West Hampton Speedway. http://www.thehimesmuseum.vze.com/

Same thing here in the Detroit area. The only drive in left is in a very bad neighborhood and they don't play the type of movies I'd want to see anyway.

As far as dragstrips go, can you believe Detroit does NOT have a dragstrip any longer? The Motor City, the car capital of the world, doesn't have a dragstrip. Closed a few years ago cuz the land was worth more to build another strip MALL. The closest is almost an hour away by freeway. Well, I guess, at least we have that. :)

John, keep us up to date on this cruz. Sounds like a great time. Why don't you try to plan something like that while the KOA show is in the Burlington/Covington area? I'd rather cruz my car to a drive in then sit around the fairgrounds listening to music. It's something different to do. Just a thought. :)

Denise, I wish we could do a drive in cruise during the Double Date. Unfortunately all the drive Ins close to Florence have been closed for awhile now. The Florence Drive IN which opened in 1947 was shut down in 1988 and as of 1997 there are now condos on the acreage. I always thought it would be a great thing to mix Drive Ins with Car Shows. You just need the right town. Take Lancaster Oh. for example. They have a nice auto theatre and a certain Kustom Kemp organization does a show in that town. Sounds like the two main ingredients for a great night and a cool trip back in time. Now who do we know that loafs here, thats also in that organization. Hummmmmm.....

Oh by the way. I know I screwed up the subject line to this topic. I didn't mean to duplicate someoneelses title. I was still asleep when I started typing.

That reminds me, what are you doing on a computer at 10am in the morning????

Maybe Debb will put a bug in Robs ear about doing a drive in while in OH. That would be fun.

I work construction my dear. Around here it's hit and miss. Feast or famine. But I've got a couple trophy orders to keep me busy.

So your making trophys on the side for car shows and cruz nites? Did you buy the engraving equipment or are you acting as the middleman? Fill us in here on what your up too. There might be folks here that could use your services.

Also, since you seem to have alittle extra time, do you feel like pawing thru your Rodder's Digests and coping any of the Big Olds build up articles that I might not have? I, of course, would pay you for your time and coping costs.

Only two left in MD active....Bengies Drive-In which im 5 minutes from, and Bel Air Drive-In (Bel Air, MD) active after 56 years and each and every year (twice) once in the spring once in the fall the 50's restaurant next door (Big M) holds their annual 4 day "Birthday Bash" car show and flea market. Other than that, they were replaced by housing or buisness. The few in-active ones that are still in one piece are so grown up with weeds, woods and stuff it isn't funny. Ya cant even get near 'em they're so grown over.

We were talking about christmas and charities and i know you mentioned something about donating from this event. how about some history on the MUG.

Well if he's not going to tell I will!!! LOL John started his own trophy business. He purchased his own engraving machine. He told me the name of it but, I can't remember it exactly and don't want to get it wrong.
So with all you car guys out there, I'm sure if you need some trophys John could hook you up!!!!

I'll mention the Drive in thing, but not sure what Jerry will do with it. Sure could be fun....maybe a thursday night event since the other nights are usually booked with reg KKOA things. ;)

Well Deb let the cat out of the bag. Yeah, I've started my own small business. Been holding back on it some, till I have everything lined out. I just bought a small storage type building to work out of and I'm waiting for them to deliver it. I've got a simple engraver and at the present time I can only do text engraving but there's plans to upgrade as I go. I'm doing a few jobs for the local car clubs but not anything big right now. I'm putting some pictures on my web page soon. I'll let you know when I do. By the way it's John's Kustom Trophy . All this brings us back to Drive In Theatres. With my wholesale price on trophies, we can give some really nice awards and not have to charge a high registration fee. Or to look at it another way. The less we spend on trophies, the more we can donate to our charities.

Don't forget to support your local Drive In. If you want to get a apprecation for what you have. Go walk through a defunct Drive In. You'll feel meloncoly, but you'll have a new appreciation for the simplier things in life. And in a round about way,it's like visiting a monument to the past. A past we need to preserve.

Just looked at the site. Found a theater open 41 miles from home. This is the last weekend of the year for them so I called the wife and she's ready to go. It's been over 30 years sence the last time I've been to one.
Will also talk to them about having a cruise-in there next spring or summer.
