yeah, we'll hear about this one on the news! What's the excuse going to be about the mistake on the winning bid?
"uh, I was drunk"? Got to be a mistake, if old Bud light cans were worth 10% of that I'd be worth as much as Howard Huges! LOL

Man, I've got a few old cans and bottles from the 50s. Maybe I should put them on ebay too. I don't think that guy knew what he had, but after looking at the bid history I see there were about 7 people that bid on it after it hit 10 grand....must have been a rare one. I guess you never know when you're going to hit the big one.

The operative word in that sale was Packard. No offensive to any Packard peeps, some of them will pay almost anything with the name Packard on it if they think it's the only one around.

OMG!!!! And I had over 400 cans at one time with some real oldies in the collection...Sold the whole batch about 10 years ago when I was in the hospital and figured they were just starting to take up space and dust!! Even had display holders for them!!
Told my wife to put an ad in the local paper and the next day a guy called and offered sight unseen, $400 for the whole thing! Like a fool, I said to go ahead..There wasn't any EBay back then. think we still had a Commodore 64 or 128! I still have about a dozen that were missed that time so maybe I can buy some more parts..LOLOL
Almost $20K for one can.....my chin is still sitting on my chest and won't move and all I can do is make funny noises.........Phil, I don't know wether to thank ya for the site or not...LOL

BTW, one of my cans (Ican't remember the brand) was just before the forties and it was one of the old type that looks like a present day metal brake fluid can and that's RARE!! only gave $10 for it and a couple of my spares..by the age of this can and condition, I figure my can would be worth.........geez!.....I don't want to think about it....my day just died!

I was thinking about this. With that many people bidding that kind of money on it, I wonder what it's REALLY worth. It's got to be more than what he paid for it.

Boy I have some friends (fellow club members) that would LOVE this. The 'Weekend Warriors Street Rod Assoc.' (nationwide orginization) is heavy into beer drinkin' at shows, almost as heavy into beer as we are our rides, and every year at the Western MD Street Rod Round-Up in Cumberland MD (Labor Day weekend) we have a little mission to accomplish in 4 days (Thurs. to Sun.), and Bob can back me up on this....we bring in a set of manequin legs, dig a 1 foot deep hole, stick the legs in upside down (feet up) and try our darndest to cover 'em over with our empty cans.
Just think how rich we could make ourselves! Next year we aint leavin' the mess for the Fairgrounds clean-up crew, we're cashin' in on EBay! LOL

I remember the beer can piles that were over in the campering area. That was some rod run I must say. I attended two of them.
We were talking about christmas and charities and i know you mentioned something about donating from this event. how about some history on the MUG.
Are we seeing double yet???? ;))

You talking about the Weekend Warriors mug, Emil? I thought that was auctioned off in '86 to raise money for the kids at the Allegany County League for Crippled Children? Were you around from '86 on? Remember Video Bob out of Indiana (now VA)? I bought every Cumberland video from the time he started filming in '86 up till this years 30th Annual 2002 event and only recall the Warriors mug being auctioned off at the awards ceremony.
Anyone heard from Big Lance that used to (still does maybe) have the gold & burgundy '34 Chevy 4 door? He was the one that stuck event pins through his chest...yeah ya heard me, his chest! Didn't believe in the whole stick 'em on the shirt theory. LOL
I'll have to go through the videos and catch some of the Warriors at work...maybe Bob has you a time or two on the videos.

You mean someone took it? I know i was there in 90,91 and possible 92. The Mug was auctioned off every year but donated BACK so that the auction could continue the nexy year. No one who ever won the auction kept the Mug, all proceeds went for children.
Can you give the gang a discription of the jousting contests? Now that was wild. And the back drop behind the race track was awesome. That mountain went straight up! I had some photos somewhere of Cumberland.

Emil, your right, I stayed up pretty much all night last night (couldn't sleep) so I popped in my Cumberland tapes that Video Bob filmed ('86-present) and you are right, it was auctioned but returned and the money went to the kids. I asked a local friend of mine who's in the club and he said they still auction it for the kids, I thought they stopped the auctions years ago and just took what the Western MD Street Rod Assoc. gathered ($$$$$) and that was that, but they still do the mug auction if nothing else from what I hear. I cant say for sure, as I roll out on Sunday morning when I camp but as of late I go up on Saturday for the day and that's it.
Yep, jousting is wild! I got the chance to hang out the window twice about 7 years ago and every year since, I'm lookin' for a empty passengers seat!
What did you bring to the show the years you were there? The red '40? I'll have to look for it on my videos!
See ya

no, I brought the 32 Chevy you see here and the last year a 56 F-100 panel truck, (will look for photos of it) that we used for the magazine. We had a vendors spot smack dab in the center of the main *concourse*, (for lack of a better discription of it) and always had a blast there. Many Islanders made that run yearly, wish i could say if they still did, so many have moved to the Carolinas and Fla in the past 10 years.
RE: The MUG, that was/is a tradition that I'm sure will NOT end. It is always a moving jesture that even, tho it's expected now, still inspires all the attendees, Weekend Warriors inparticular to cough up more dough for the kids.
this photo is a shot taken on our way back from the NSRA southeast rod run in Tampa. We had heard a good friend and fellow street rodder had past on so we and a friend headed home. This shot was at a stop we made in NC where we ran into another displaced LIer.

It's true they didn't sell, Debb. But I find it hard to believe that so many people bid over $150k for Hot Wheels. Besides, the seller may sell to the highest bidder and con eBay out of their commission, making up for the 'low' bid.
