fuel injection and gas tanks

Looking for sound advise regarding tank selection and fuel injection. I am concerned with the cap installation in an efi system... should it be a threaded cap or can it be the regular style? Thanks Roger

You can use any cap you want. Your concern is weather to use an intank pump or external pump. Sounds like you live close to me. I can help with your total injection installation if you like. I have done many 5.0 ltr installations.

Hi Roger, Jim's right it doesn't matter as long as the tank or the cap is vented properly, which it needs to be for either carb or EFI application. I kept the stock tank and cap on an old Mustang we converted to EFI, with an external pump.

I'm going through the same decision with my latest project, I'm using a flip top style cap and a fuel cell which has it's own vent, just because it's the look I want.

In additon to the concerns you mentioned, I installed an inertia shut off switch in the rear ahead of the tank. It was removed from a late Ford Escort. You'll find them on EFI vehicles. In the case of the Fords, they were inside the trunk area on the left side. These switches will kill the current to the fuel pump if you get in a fender bender. Shuts off that 50+psi pump & gas flow!! Those EFI's have very high presssure & could cause a real fire hazzard if you are in a wreck.
Second item is the shut off if the oil pressure drops--it'll save your engine. I've installed both of these items on my GM TPI powered Ford. Really sold on the EFI & 5 speed OD combo.

Thanks for the replys. I bought the regular necke tank for my deuce which accepts a stock style vented cap. I will look into the inertia switch and oil pressure switch. Roger

Think the Vintique tank has a fuel return built in.

My tank came with two sending unit holes. In one hole there was a gold anodized fuel pick. The pickup tube ran down to the bottom of the tank and inclded a bag like fabric filter. The pickup included a vent and a fuel return fitting with a rubber cap. Don't know if it is supposed to be included or an extra. But I got one and it is trick.

Vintique makes their 32 tank in two styles. One has only one hole in the top and the other has 2. The one unit is made to accept a regular 5 hole sending unit only. The two hole unit takes the tank sending unit and in the other hole they install a fuel pickup which also has a place to hook up a return line. This is fine except there is no baffle tray to keep the fuel around the pickup when the level gets low and the fuel sloshes away when turning a corner. As soon as the pump sucks air the engine quits from lack of fuel pressure.
