Just for fun (TV Shows)
by cruzr
Posted: 11/17/2002 07:26 EST

What were the TV shows you watched when you were growing up?
I know this will tell on your age, but how cares.

I remember watching: Sky King, Bat Masterson, Green Hornet, Zorro, These are just a few

Oh oooooooh Rick....you know how these posts are....you have started something fun......so everyone will show up...it's going to be a long thread!

I bite. Roy Rogers, Superman, Leave it to Beaver, Pinky Lee, The Three Stooges, Mickey Mouse Club (love that Annette and Darlene....still do), The Rebel, I love Lucy, The Steve Allen Show, and every Saturday night the whole family would collect by the TV to watch The Ed Sullivan Show. All these shows were mostly 50s shows. I have a bunch of early 60s too, but thought I would give a chance to someone else.

Rick...thanks for starting this thread...made me think of my Grandma this morning....this is good!

I can probably cover the later generations for ya'll. Fridays growing up were all about The Dukes of Hazard and The Hulk. I also remember watching That's Incredible before Monday Night Football as a youngster.

I also watched a lot of the same shows as you guys - it's just that they were already a couple of decades into syndication! LOL :-)

Guess this is early 50's TV and not radio. Lets see, there was Howdy Doody, Father Knows Best, (the first men bashing show!) Sid Ceaser, Milton Berle, Jack Benny (radio and tube), Never cared much for the Beav, Ed Sullivan, Roy Rogers (mostly had to take my sister to the Sat. afternoon matinee for 10 cents......Wonder what Mom and Dad were doing....uh..I think inner sanctum and "G" men made it to the tube along with Superman hisself and that should do for now as it's taxing the memory banks...lol
This otta be fun to see the age parity.....uh..right FredP

WoW!!! This is really mind boggling!! I saw just about everyone mentioned but I forgot my really favorites of The Honey Mooners and being on the right coast at the time and going to school, I lost many hours of sleep watching The Tonight Show with Steve Allen...Also remember Barnaby Jones, Car 54 Where are You?, and every time I hear a siren I think to myself, "go get em Brodrick" and him screeching to a stop and almost hitting himself from the CB antenna whipping back and forth so hard LOL.. yeah, and horses going faster than the Derby horses! Gabby Hayes and Gene Autry, The Sons of the Pioneers..So far I have to give an "A" to Richard for an amazing memory which after thinking about this, could probably add some more..Carol Burnett with her Tarzan yell!!!
I guess my all time favorite tho and not really all that old is M.A.S.H........Seen every episode at least 3-4 times if not more. Guess it attracted me cause I did 18 months over there....And Trekies too!! My miss Brooks! Better go..this could go on and on.. LOLOL I love the thread!! FredP

Let’s see.. as memory serves me, although the early 70’s were a mind-melt. I’m with Slick about “Dark Shadows”. My Mother the Car, Munsters, Rifleman, My Favorite Martian, Captain Kangaroo, Sea Hunt, Combat, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Route 66, Leave it to Beaver, My Three Sons, Superman, Batman, Beverly Hillbillies, Ed Sullivan, Dick Van Dyke, Gun Smoke. OK, now my head really hurts, way too much thought for a Sunday morning.

46driver, i noticed you had LASSIE in your list.I guess that was my alltime childhood favorite. When I was about 7 or 8 years old my folks took me to FRONTIER LAND in the Smokey Mountains. The boy who played TIMMY in the show was there doing a personal apperance. Well it was a rainy day so hardly no one was there so "Timmy" and I hung out about all day. I dont remember his real name. He had a Lassie colie with him but it was not the one on the show. I used to have an autographed picture he gave me but it got misplaced years ago,oh well.....

Plunk your magic twanger was also used by the Ghoul. It was a real corny B movie horror host. Ron Sweed is his name and he was on Saturday nights. He was always blowin things up with firecrackers and settin things on fire. Really cool. Any one from Mich. remember Captain Jolly and Poopdeck Paul. They had a cartoon show that originated from Canada. Windsor to be exact. How about Johnny Ginger or Rita Bell with her movie program. Johnny Ginger`s show was called Curtain Time Theater. Always showed the Three Stooges. How about Swingin Time with Robin Seymore. A teen dance show out of Windsor. Anyone remember Hullabaloo? Brain cells on overload. Can`t remember anything else. One more. Rowan and Martin`s Laugh-In.

As an aside : ...

"You Bet Your Life" (Groucho) was up against "The $64,000 Question" at the same time / different network. A testimonial to Groucho's poularity , the MOST you could win on Groucho's show was $150.00. " Say the secret word , win yourself a $150.00. It's a common word , something you see every day. GEORGE , who's our next two contestants ? ".
Like most shows , this was live , and the sponsors were alaways nervous - Groucho WAS Groucho. The LAST show went something like ....
The usual introductions and small talk before the GAME began - Groucho was asking questions of this woman.
G: Are you married ?

W: Yes

G: Any children ?

W: Yes

G: How many ?

W: 13

G: MY GOD WOMAN , what posessed you to have TAHT many children.

W: Well , Groucho , I guess I just love my husband.

G: Lady , I love my cigar , but I take it out one in a while. ( eye brows )

The greatest lineup on TV for me was Route 66, 77 Sunset Strip, and The Twilight Zone.
If I remember correctly they came on Friday night in that order.
What a shock it was to find out a few years later when I actually started "cruising the strip" that the building (Dino's) that was supposed to be at 77 Sunset "Strip" was at an entirely different address number, and if it had been at 77, it would either be in China Town or Santa Monica near Pacific Coast Highway, on the route to Malibu.

I watched Soupy Sales until that day he told "that joke" and just wasn't there after the commercial break...

Lloyd Thaxton Show, like a Hollywood Blvd. version of American Band Stand. was fun.
First generation Star Trek... always and still a trekkie!

Have gun, Will Travel was good for a while, till it got pretty obvious that there was a better chance of him shooting down the person who hired him instead of the person he was hired to kill.

Same with Mission Impossible... It was fun for about half the first season, then it got to be the same old gimmicks to set up son dictator that we set up in power in the first place and if they were really spys they'd just go in and off the SOB.....

Hawaii Five-0 Hot Show!

Can't stand Lucy! Kringe!!!

There usta be a show,in the fifties, a weekly presentation actually, on one of the independent stations called The Fabulous Fifty Two.
They aired a feature length movie every Saturday night.
Errol Flynn, Clark Gable, Bette Davis, those old movies..
They must have shown reruns of all the movies my parents saw in England during the war because they new the plots to all of them, either that or they were airing the same movies over and over for years...
I miss the late night movies and all night movies on network TV. Now they have all that "Infomercial" crud.
