Saw a Hollywood Graham on StreetRodder TV earlier and it had me wondering. The guy claimed he made LED tails and used Ford Focus head and tail lights and cleared over them when painting and clearing the whole car to lose the seams. Looks like the body and lights are one unit.
Anybody done it? Was there any success?? Downfalls to it?
Might try it on a lil' somethin' in the future.
Grant

I stretched blue tint saran wrap over my headlights ... clear rear lens with red LED's completed the EURO-LOOK.
Picked up 2mpg and 6 chicks.

You`de get a hell of alot more chicks if you included the 1 inch tape, tons of usless decals, a 4 inch exhaust tip and a park bench rear spoiler.

Ed, you are way off base. Those stickers are very usefull, they're worth 10- 15 Horsepower. Now don't go running out to your garage to stick them on your rod, it won't work. You don't have the proper computer chip that analizes your racing sticker to paint ratio. I think it's ST:P2. This is far more common on Honda Civic'c, Toyota Cellica's, Mitsubishi's, and now even Saturns!

Hey, look at it this way, if ya get that rice rocket goin' too fast and it scares the livin' bejeezes out of ya just slap on some stickers and weigh it down. If that dont work add roll bars (as if your ever gonna need 'em in the first place) and oh, dont forget the 5 tons of chrome and billet INSIDE the car.
One would think they would wanna show it outside! Saw one at a show last year that had diamond plate on the top of the dash, the whole floor from front to back the underside of the hood and the complete trunk. Talk about dangerous on a sunny day. Mirror/reflection factor was outrageous!

That ain't a wing....its a brace to keep the trunk lid from stress cracking because of the BOOOOOOMMMMMMMPPPPP BOOOOOOOMMMMMMMPPPPP'n rap crap. And it's a good place to set your beer while you're pretending to check out his car but you're really checkin' out his ol lady.

tsk tsk...you guys are bad! those 'spoilers' are actually BOOM recirculators. they take the boom waves from the left side of the car and recirculate them to the right, which makes the sounds louder so you can hear them coming blocks away. BUT, if the car is right hand drive, the sound waves are reversed, and the car self destructs in 30 seconds.

Now I've got it (thanks Phil for clearing things up). I always thought it was where they hook the wrecker when those little pices of crap break down! As far as clear coat over lamps I don't have the skills to go that far. I've tried to flush mount my lenses (with limited sucess) and had a lot of fabricating to do. It would be a neat look if you get away from the cracking/flexing problems. Have you considered a clear jel-coat like they use on fiberglass boats?

What about using the flex agent in the clear that you use on the plastic bumpers on new cars?

You might have something with the flex agent idea, however you can't blend flex agt. so you would have to have a definate line to stop or do your whole car with it.

Best bet is to NOT clear over the lights on a driver,The flex agent is a good idea but i think you'll find with most paints there won't be the depth in the shine that there is when you don't use flex. With the price of paint these days why would anyone want to do something to make the paint fail and ruin that investment they have in the paint job.Paint jobs are probably one of THE most expensive features on any street rod, custom or any vehicle!

Eds right look for cracks, plastic and steel expand and contract at way different rates. Can you remember how bad some of the fiberlass scoops bonded on steel hoods looked after a little while? Its a cool idea but not too practical for a driver.
