I've been trying to get ahold of them for more than a week. I get answering machines when I phone, and my email to them bounced back.
Anyone know if they're in some kind of trouble?

Somethin's up! Checked the site and a portion of the things the company sells are seriously marked down. Knock off's dirt cheap with purchase of rims (theres where they get ya), steering wheels half price, tire and rim cleaner 50% off.
Something is definately going on! Unless it was just a serious holiday or a post holiday clearance sale that's still going on. Hope it's nothing big!
When all else fails, Budnik!

I noticed the price drop as well. We (Allan Automotive) are one of thier Canadian dealers and the web prices are lower than the price lists they sent us last fall.
One reason I'm concerned is we ordered a steering wheel from them for a customer and he needs it asap.
I guess we can just sit back and see what happens.
Thanks for the input, guys!

What they charge for a set of whells, I'm suprised they didn't go belly up a long time ago. Nice wheels but pricy to me.
But I remember when you could get a set of Cragar SS wheels for $100.

You're right, erbssr, they're real pricy, but so are Budniks, Coddingtons, heck, pick one that does'nt make you think of the 'goodoldays'. Cragers seemed to be the choice back in my high school days. Slotted mags, reverse chrome wheels, baby moons. It was'nt uncommon to see your buddy with some sort of alum. wheels on front, with steel wheels (turned backwards) on the rear,(all we could afford) long leaf spring shackles giving it that "super rake" look! COOL!

And you wonder why Steelies are popular again?
Heck I went to Wheel Vintique for modern 16" steel wheels to replace the 17" on my 54 F-350 and couldnt believe how cheap they were. Try and find 6 lug 17" replacements any cheaper. They will make any wheel for any application.
Went with many sets of Cragars in the 70-80's but I refuse to spend one red cent on this modern crap. (Any OT's remember the red cent reference?)
The most modern wheel I use these days are the stock 15x7 Rallye wheels on the 68 SS396.
I will probably get lots of flack from some but I feel that its darn well time to get back to some sanity in what we pay to build a rod today. Fancy wheels and tires are one expense that can easily be dispensed with. The looks of many of those modern configurations on rods/customs wants to make me barf.

I agree with you, Carl. I'll probably put steelies on the Pontiac, as the new styles go more with the new cars (was that a Taurus or Camry?). Is there a web site for the Vintique wheels? I typed in vintique and got a guitar web site.

One man's treasure is another man's trash.
Steelies are not cheap when you count all the factors.$50 a wheel,$25 each for a stainless beauty ring,$20-$25 apiece for a stainless hubcap and then paint or powercoating.I have almost $200 in paint, sealer and primer just to paint mine RED. Now I know red is higher priced than most colors, but that ads up to $650 and I did all the sanding, priming and painting. No outside labor costs. For another $200-$250 I could buy 5 spoke Americans.I am like 286 merc , I too cannot buy stanard wheels, they do not work on my 2 rides because they are both 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern. And besides I just Love the oletimey look,it fits my oletimey cars.

Couldn't agree more with the prices. We get an average of one call per week for prices on CC wheels at the shop. You can almost hear their butt snap shut when I tell them the prices, especially on the big diameter ones. :-) I will admit they make very nice wheels, and on a high dollar car why not use them if you can? I'd be very happy to learn what's happening with the company, though.
As for the gaining popularity of steelies...I'm going that route as well on both my rods. The '48 is getting OE style chrome reverse wheels without hub caps, and the T is getting painted steelies with '40 Ford Deluxe beauty rings and hub caps.

OUCH!
Ok lets see...$50 a pop new, already primed. A rattle can of red at $5 a pop should do 2 wheels. Rings? Caps? Maybe $20 ea for a set of 4. You wouldnt buy new ones would you? No style if they werent scuffed and dented.
OK so thats the other extreme but at least I specified new wheels! That fit radials.

Well I did have the factory Merc 15 inchers for the 40 coupe saving the $50 a pop for rims but everything else was new Bob Drake. Thats the good news. The bad news was that on the DEUCE I used factory 15's with all NOS Ford caps and rings restored by AACA guy John Young-- ouch! When I was getting the stuf for the 32 together 20+ years ago no Bob Drake Available for these pieces so it was Carlisle or the next week at Hershey. I dislike repro alot. Most is ill-fitting and poorly made when compared to NOS Ford stuff.

Carl;
If I recall "one red cent" refered to the old zinc pennies used in WWII. Right?
Anyhow I agree that is one area where our hobby has gone overboard in some respects -- wheels--with matching steering wheels, no less. Not for me. And that's just my two cents or as my Norwegian buddy Lars says " My tre orr".

ALAN , others ,
I called a rod shop owner here , in Maryland , that handles CC components ... He's heard nothing.
BUT , he did tell me that Custom Auto Carpet ? ... or ... just plain , Auto Carpet ? ... the owners and most of the staff went down in a plane crash two weeks ago. These are the people that supplied places like Year One and several others.

Bummer info on the plane crash, that really sucks.
I spoke with Jason at Pete & Jakes this morning about C/C. He told me he's been having the same problems getting ahold of anyone there.
I guess it's going to be a "wait and see" situation for the next little while.

I got ahold of "Nancy" at Colorado Custom customer service. I asked her if they were having trouble. She emphatically replied: No! Absolutely not, and was taken aback of that notion. I told her many people who have called can't get past the answering machine, she apologized.
They work only until noon in the office. She said if you can't get through to them to fax them at 1-970-224-1334.
I went through their telephone prompt set-up and dialed ext.100 to get to her. You might try that.

Auto Custom Carpet and Interiors ie: ACC. That plane crash happened almost a year ago. It was the owner and about 6 or 8 employees. Very, very sad. They were one of the major sponsors on the Power Tour for many years. Awesome folks, who really care about their customers/potential customers.

That had me wondering too, I could have swore it was over a year ago, but then again who am I?
Looking back in my books it was around June or July last year. Or at least thats when they got it in the books and let public know.
I sit corrected , slept standing up last night - I'm beat !
Your book didn't happen to have the time of death from the coroner's report , did it ?
