HRSJ got snow? You guys might want to read those hibernation tips. How about some chains? Don't seem to need them in Iowa. Drive safely......

Hey!!! So 3 years ago, I move here from Saratoga Springs, NY, thinkin that I'm done with snow shovels, ice melt, insulated gloves and studded snow tires. Ya, right. This morning, I wake up to find 5" of frozen, white, foriegn matter everywhere. No small problem. Remember, this is the South. No such thing as snow plows or salt trucks here. Not to mention the fact that no one has any idea how to drive on this stuff. But, come to find out, it doesn't matter. Because everthing and I mean everything, is closed. Now, I got a lotta experience on what to do on snow days from up north. Hey Bill, pass me another beer and whats this blue fuzzy thing on my pizza?

Try to stay warm.....Y'all.

Hey guys, The main thing we red necks have to do is stay out of the Yankee's way in a snow storm, You know they think they can do everything better. Just stay out of there way and let'em hit some ice under the snow. And thats the end of the story. "VEO DINDICE" HonestFrank

We got 7 to 8" of snow. It is so beautiful to look out over the cow pasture. The baby goats are going crazy running jumping butting each other. i took my 2 oldest grandsons sleighing down a large hill in the pasture, big fun, but they wore this old man out. Edcroozer ,Yeah we get news papers here but we use them in the outhouse. We only read the NRA Freedom First Magazine & the Holy Bible. Regards, HonestFrank

Hey 35, Thanks for the tip ! I collect all the dry "pies" and burn them in my wood stove. Have to admit it stinks a bit but sure puts out the btu's. My Grandsons collect the goat berrys, Great ammunition for there sling shots. At least they don't blow holes in my parts cars. Regards, HonestFrank

OK dave I'll get the beer! That blue fuzzy thing on your pizza is mold. And living in Chalotte you DO get storms- ice, snow, tornados and hurricanes! I used to live in Mount Holly and we had to chainsaw our way out a few years ago after a "little" storm. Say are you going to Myrltle Beach or Knoxville this year?

OK Al we may have a little melting snow but just how COLD does it get up in the great white north?!? I've seen minus 15 degrees one winter just north of Green Bay (without the wind chill). You can cruise but I KNOW you'll eventually just freeze your brain cells living that far north! It'll just take time.

Big Al, No snow here either to speak of. Swing by here and pick me up, we'll put the top down in your new convert, mines already down, and we'll hit Woodward tonight! The local hangouts shouldn't been too crowded, we'll probley get good parking spots. LOL

How cold is it here (near Toronto)? Well, today its above freezing. Balmy huh?
I know how cold it gets in other parts of Canada. They have 2 seasons; winter and a month of black flies.

I see that you once lived in Mt. Holly NC. I worked at Gaston Dyeing over on the road to Stanley, which is where I lived. Small world is it not? Went to Charlotte today to the flea market at Metrolina. Same old stuff but they had a crowd like I have never seen there. Everybody had cabin fever I guess. NSRA magazine came yesterday and the Myrtle Beach show was listed so I need to get a room so the wife and I can go. SEE YA !!

Randy-I was working at the Walkisoft paper mill and living in the "summer" house Dr. Rankin rented to us in between Mt.Holly and Stanley.I still can't figure out how we ended up in a dry county. I just got my magazine Saturday also and I've been in touch with the folks putting on the show- They say there's no problems with the show. Hope to see you there!

Hey Mike....and all. Yep...we had 4.5inches as measured on the official "southern" snow shovel....something I have had since moving from Indiana in 79. Get's a workout every three years or so...carbon tip still razor sharp.

I had to go out to the State Farm Insurance parking lot after the snow and do donuts and loop de loops with my 19 year old daughter to teach her winter driving carfisics. She is taking her car back to Purdue in West Lafayette, In. with no winter driving, so the snow was a real God's send.

She was surprised how a car just won't stop even going slowly and how out of control you can get just cramming on the brakes. It was slippery as snot on the ole doorknob up here. A very good driving lesson indeed.

On another note, more of the yankee vs southerner thing, I just had to stir the pot again, but I can do this because I had bonified relatives that were officers and soldiers on BOTH sides of the brawl...lost 8 family members to Union gunfire and 3 to Confederate.....

I have been hit 5 times in Atlanta bad weather situations either snow and ice and it has always been a native Southerner at fault saying to me, I just didn't think it was that slippery! Never has been my fault other than I was OUT on the roads.....something I don't do anymore just because of this issue. I also had a mailbox located at the bottom of the hill in a subdivision that got taken out 4 times in ice or snow....again by native and homegrowns gone astray. Now, I really don't think it's got anything to do with brains or anything like that.....it's just experience and education like anything else. My next door neighbor from GA, loaded up his windshield washer with plain ole water in 20 degree weather and went out on a snowy night and when utilizing the windshield washers found out that it will immediately freeze and blind you and cause $8000 in damage to the new C class....DOH! I also saw a young man from University of GA get out and try to help a young woman friend up a small incline at my office complex by going to the grocery store, getting kitty litter (that's good so far), coming back and tearing the bag open (that's good too) and preceding to sprinkle cat litter (we're getting there..it get's better) under the back tires of a Honda Accord! Doh! I fell off my office chair as I looked on out of my office window laughing. It's just the experience of dealing with winter issues on a regular basis that people don't have. Can be dangerous as well. That's not to say that good ole Yankees don't pile em up either which is really stupid, because they know better. Also the topography is not like the flat plains of Indiana.

How's that for a conversation starter?

AMEN. We got our first heavy snow of the season yesterday here in central IL. I can still see the grass. I drove the six miles to have dinner last night, and saw SIX salt trucks spreading the Morton stuff on the roads. Steve, that's where we in the north have more experience with snow; the minute that it starts snowing, the trucks are out spreading the stuff so people don't have to do something stupid like slow down and be more careful. The spreader drivers get their overtime (buy more rod parts) and the yuppies can get to the store in their beemers and abcd classes to rent the latest DVD. The only problem they haven't solved yet, is what to do when the real heavy stuff starts to fall, and there isn't any salt left to spread.

I guess they go on the assumption that if they didn't use all this salt, they would have to throw it all away in the spring, then restock in the fall (I think they change the air in their tires from summer to winter, then winter to summer). Anyway, I don't drive my Chevy in the winter. I'd be betting on whether it was going to get T-boned at an intersection, or be completely dissolved by the salt by the time spring arrives.

Happy New Year from the 'Rust Belt'.

We had about 4" before Xmas and they put enough salt on it to last the rest of the winter.
Nothing like cutting some cookies to sharpen those driving skills.
Anyone have have the back end of front wheel drive come around and pass you? Brake or gas, brake or gas,.......
Driving on snow is the only way to get rush at 10 mph.
STop Stop oh nooooooooo....
