Not sure if anyone has checked the Syracuse Nats web site www.syracusenats.com) lately but the organizers are making some major changes when it comes to power parkers. If you leave your tent, chair etc. in a spot over night, it will be removed.
Finally someone has the balls to make it fair for everyone.

I'll believe it when I see it.
Other orginizations have said the same thing and
and every show I go to nothing is ever done!
Get over it! I really don't care where they park if they want to get up at 4;00 in the morning and run over there and get a spot, Let Them ,if you get there earlier
than them move the chairs yourself, Yea the'll bitch a little who cares.
Just don't count on one the promoters to help
cause they won't your probably on your own.

Trust me, Freddy, Bob and Bob and the whole Syracuse Nats gang don't make promises they don't keep. If they say they're going to take down stuff left overnight believe it!
I only live 50 miles from the fairgrounds, but the last 2 years I stayed in Syracuse because we found a cheap motel.
But just like York and everywhere else, the motel owners caught on. I'll be traveling from home in 2002. There are lots of mom & pop places a short drive from the fairgrounds.

Charlie, I'm booked in at the Holiday Inn paying $115 per night. I'm not a happy camper about this. You have any names and numbers of these mom and pop places to stay? Or maybe Bill might have an idea about a more reasonable place to stay. Thanks

At Rhinebeck GG`s this year, they enforced the no tent law, some bitched and moaned that they payed for their spot, but they complied and put their cars and furniture in the trailers for the nite. Someone IS listening. Now the power parkers think it`s unfair. TOUGH!

I believe the Goodguys organization is heading in the right direction. At Columbus this year, both tents and chairs, that were taking up parking spaces, were gathered and put in a pile for the owners to collect. At Charlotte this year, if a car was left parked in a "power parking spot" OVER NIGHT, it was issued a "ticket" that was stuck on the windshield notifing the owner that they were now disqualified for winning any trophys, picks and/or prizes. EVERYONE was told of this new procedure when picking up their packet at registration.
I did go to the Syracuse Nats last year. It was this groups first year organizing this show and they did an outstanding job. From what I heard from Charlie and Bill here, this year was also very successful, with a large increase in cars attending. I believe they will follow through with their plans and hopefully other groups will follow their lead. I do have the Syracuse Nats on my must do list for 2002. It's an awesome show.
Trust me when I tell you that the higher-ups in the national oraganizations do "lurk" here at SRS. We "discussed" the subject of power parkers and saved spots here last year (along with a ton of other complaints, LOL)and now in Goodguys something is finally being done about it. SRS, with it's almost 900 members is a powerful voice when it comes to new thoughts and ideas to make this hobby/sport more enjoyable for everyone. So if you do have constructive criticism, state it here. There are powerful ears listening. :)

Charlie, check back late next week for details. Don't want to say anything till it's parked in the coveted, carpeted spot in the garage. I told him he's gotta throw in a autographed copy of the "Hot Rodder's Bible" to seal the deal. LOL I'll keep ya up to date.

The guys putting on the show in Syracuse (Bob & Fred?) did a GREAT job considering it is a very young event. It's too bad they can't stop the hotels from price gouging, though. This year our group spent $53 +tax per night. The same rooms for the 2002 event are $85 +tax per night. ......I believe GREED on the part of the hotels will tarnish an otherwise fantastic event. I do realize this is occuring elsewhere, and not just in Syracuse. It's just another "BOHICA!" (Bend Over, Here It Comes Again!)

Second year for syracuse.(this will be the 3) I got a nice e-mail the week after the show and was told it will not be tolerated(power parkers, chair parkers). As far as Goodguys they could care less they just want your cash like NSRA. The guys running syracuse have promised not to let it turn into a a goodguys or NSRA show. No friggin trophys just give aways. Had to be the best show last year(but hot) Columbus was loaded with boyds billet resale red cookie cutter stuff as allways(last year for me at that one.Indy was more fun). These guys just may pull it off. great area for sure. With the truway there you dont have to stay at the circle you can be 50 miles away in hurry so screw the locals hotels if you dont want to pay. Hampton was the same price .A nice show for sure.Found a nice BB on the lake for 75 bucks a nite cant beat that!!!!

As I posted here numerous times, I LOVED Syracuse in '95, and even more this year. I couldn't care less if they confiscate chairs and canopies! They people who want those spots bad enough are going to get them one way or another. We parked way out in no mans land last year, and relaxed. I just wish the lanes around the buildings were bigger so they could have cruising, there were so many people there (spectators) that it was impossible to cruise the grounds. But, that's what made they show!

Looking for a little feedback re Syracuse. I'm in Cleveland where every Tues. summer night there is a local cruise that draws 500 cars and up. The largest being a couple grand the night "My Classic Car" was taping. That's a pretty big local show. I mention this because I've considered Syracuse as it's only 5 hours away but a friend from MI went there two years ago and reported that it was like a local cruise night in Anywhere, USA. I wondering if the trip is worth it considering I've got that locally. From what this group is writing, things may or at least appear to be changing for the better. I'm looking for a little info re the show...Thanks, Frank

Car count was over 5000 this year. The first year was pretty big also so i think your friend may have bumped into the wrong place. The boys are thinking about limiting the # of cars so if you think you want to go i would reg now. I think i only payed 150 bucks at the embassy suites which is a real ritzy joint. Hampton was only 85 bucks. Found a nice place on the lake(sorry i aint tellin on this one) 75 bucks a nite and get free breakfest.Lets put it this way they asked everyone to stop cruzin sat cause there was just to many people. Its a fun show. Not a lot of boyd trophy hounds cause there aint no trophys.Promoters are very nice and honest people. Some of the retail guys got a little out of hand setting up but that was fixed pretty quick. You will like it.

Frank, I encourage you to go. Your "local" show is just that, local cars. Doesn't matter how many are there, they are still the same cars you see week after week with maybe a few exceptions when someone brings something new out. I was at the same show your buddy was at. It was awesome. The only problems seemed to be the lines for food and drink. They didn't expect the huge crowds for a first time show run by a local bunch of car clubs. (I think there's about 15 clubs helping the show promotor guys)) At the show in 2000 you could cruz around without getting too bottled up. There was a little line to get out the 2 gates when the show was winding down but it wasn't any big deal. The cruzn action at night on the local "main drag" is a don't miss event. There's wonderful restaurants and bars in the area. We hit a great BBQ place callled Dinosaurs(?) (correct me if I'm wrong on the name, Bill or Charlie, the place downtown that has the great rock and roll music). The swap meet area seemed to be big, if your into that. There's areas with green grass and trees, although you have to get there pretty early for those. They did seem to giveaway some nice prizes but since it was raining on Sunday I decided to leave for home in the morning. There were some very talented east coast shops that had some great cars on display, Tucci Engineering comes to mind. Awesome rides. There is alot of cruzn action the whole week before the show even starts. The Bluemooners here can fill ya in on more of the details on the names and locations of some of the places we went. One of the cruises I remember was the Thursday night cruz out in the "Finger Lakes" area. There were hundreds of classic cars against a backdrop of a lake. There was a great bar a short walk along the beach that served great burgers and stuff. All in all, a wonderful show, hopefully they can keep it that way for many years.
Of the subject alittle, but since your close to Youngstown, I thought I'd mention it. The Hot Rod Power Town will be ending it's Tour next year in Youngstown. It will be arriving on Thursday May 30th and be there thru the weekend. On Thur and Fri it will be at some fairgrounds, can't remember off the top of my head exactly where, then over the weekend, I guess we'll all be going to the Hot Rod Nationals that will be in town? Don't know too much about that event. Thought I'd give ya a heads ups. I'll post more details as they become available.
I had a 7 hour drive from Detroit (going thru Canada) and it was well worth it. You'll see cars there from the Northeast that dont make it to Louisville, Columbus, York etc.

I totally agree with Denise! The Syracuse Nats is a great show. The best part, for me anyway, is the lack of politics and trophy hunters. This doesn't mean there are some knock-out rods there.........as a matter of fact, there are probably nicer and better built cars at the Syracuse Nats than at many of the Goodguys and/or NSRA shows.
Its a great mixture of cars. Not sure what the cut-off date is but there is plenty of variety. Not too many belly button deuces (although I love yours!).
Its a great time, easy to get to and best of all, there are a ton of Canadians there!! (I'm one). We have some cool cars............
