Hey gang, I might disappear for a few days or so, for some reason everything was fine last night and this morning my CD Rom is locked up tighter than Fort Knox and it WILL NOT open, not even with physical force or worse yet tools. SO this leaves me with two options, keep going without the CD Rom and never play these games I accumilated ever again (till I get a new updated system) or take this thing apart and send it out to Best Buys and get it fixed (or so I hope they can fix it).

For a while today it wouldn't open for nothing, now it's opening (thing is I'm the one thats gotta physically open it) but when I stick a CD in it and close it up it wont read it. Looks to me like the CD program went kaput and worse yet the CD drive locked up because like I said, instead of it automatically opening I have to open it and that does no good since it wont read CD's since the programs gone.

So, sometime between now and after the first of the year If I would happen to pull a disappearing act you know this thing is off to the Computer Hospital.

Grant Its not that hard to just replace it. You could probable do it yourself in about 2 hours.I know i changed mine out in about a hour but i have a dell case which is super easy to open (one thumb screw) Got a new one at staples on sale so it did not cost that much.Hell everything in my box is been changed it aint even a dell anymore.LOL puter's are like hot rods yah got to build em up a little.More power!!!!

Sorry to hear that bud. Keep in mind the your local library has computers to use if you get the urge to find out whats going on, on the net, while yours is being fixed.

Bummer man, I gues I`ll just have to try and survive with none of your wisdom for a few days. boo hoo. ....LOL

Mike, your tellin' me I can get a new CD Drive door, gear mechanism that opens it and closes it thats tied in with the CD eject button, the program to re-program it in the puter once the door can open and close by the push of the button and the whole 10 yards? My P.O.S system is all Hewlett Packard so the parts you used may not work on mine, then again who knows. I'll check it out for sure.

Sure beats the quote Best Buys gave me ($60 and a week to do it). I'll have to see if the stores carry the parts I need.

Richard, while I transform into Hudini and do my disappearing act all thanks to this faulty CD Rom not working your on call to keep Ed in line.

See Ed, easy as that, Richard will fill in for me and my words of wisdom. WAIT A MINUTE, yeah they're words but who said anything about wisdom...LOL?

Gonna take this mother apart tomorrow and see if Staples can find me the parts I need to redo this thing. With luck I'll be gone a max. of 4 hours if Mikes plan works for me. If not after the first of the year i'll send it out to the big guys that know everything and like to take your money.

But Grant, We are all mere rookies at this hot rod junk, Richard is one too.......What will we do Grant..what will we do? Mike gave you advise? Hold your ears folks...It`s Blowtime!!!! So much for Mike`s plan...LOL. Keep me in line? Many have tried, all have failed. Fix that freakin thing, I`m gonna miss messin with ya.

Mike, Right now I'd be better off with a whole new system, trust me. This thing is slower than molasses on a Monday in December and it's starting to erase stuff left and right without me doing it.

As of right now after installing a new CD drive it still isn't acting right. Plays music CD's great but PC CD Games wont come up, says theres no CD drive on my system basically speaking (came up with some drawn out pop up note with big words that basically in the nutshell said I dont have a CD Drive), This after playing a music CD perfectly.

SO, I spend a hour on the phone with Hewlett Packard and probably $200 in phone charges ($$ per every 5 minutes or so) only for some Hong Kong Louie Jap guy to tell me "I have wiring problem somewhere in CD Drive (NO REALLY!!), take to computa shop and get fix" end quote. It looks to me like everythings hooked up, just the CD Program has vanished into Cyber Hell and so far I've done everything to get it back and it just aint happenin'.

Anyway, After the first I'll be off for a few unless magically a Genie pops out of a bottle and fixes my problem (which I highly doubt thats gonna happen)

I'm hangin around till the first week in January or so, after that I'll be down. I'll give ya fair enough warning so you dont think I just up and left.
