Will a fuel injection setup from a 350 small block Chevy fit on a 400 small block Chevy?

I am still in the planning stages. I want to use a Chevy 400 small block because they are uncommon. The car I am building, a '55 Hillman Estate Wagon, has a small gas tank, and I want to be able to get the best gas mileage I can get. So I don't have any particular year in mind. By the way, how much do you want for your fuel injection system?

I`m asking 700 plus shipping for the complete system, you couldn`t get the ECM for that price and it is included with the setup. Sounds like a great project.

700 for a computer!?!?!?!
don't think so.....
still, thats a good price, kinda wish i needed one.
BTW, i see GM has a lower intake that'll adapt it to vortec-style heads.
thought i'd seen it priced around $350....

Sorry there Slickman, I went to GM for a price on a new ECU, 650 and change. I admit you can get them aftermarket for less or the boneyard, So what I had said was not to mislead, It`s not my style.

OK, I`ll jump in here, I run a 400 sb, which has been bored and stroked, it`s now a 417. Never an overheat problem. If you have the proper cooling system, rad, waterpump, fan and shroud and you prep your block by boiling it out on rebuild, it`ll run overheat free. I wouldn`t trust em from the boneyardand into your rod, but after a real freshening up, these engines are as reliable as the venerable 350. Plus there are some real power points to this motor. When correctly built, a 406 is a real stump puller.

Hi Bill, One of the reasons I ask is that I have a complete TPI system for sale, The unit, Puter, Harness and sensors, Fuel pump and a K/N filter. It will fit your 400 smallblock and all early smallblocks.

Just my 2 cents. That 400 block is 33% larger then the TPI was original designed to run. My 91 350 L98 powered vette is a torque monster but runs out of good revs at around 4900 rpm. Guys on the vette forum at C4's are always trying to get more air in. I realize that a 400 isn't usually set up to be a high winder but it still needs more air. You did mention mileage as your main objection. That being the case, I'd focus on the type of transmission you choose to better accomplish your goal....Frank

Well I guess you are right, I will be pulling the other TPI off my 406 on my 69 camaro. I was under the impression it ran really good, shifted at 5600. Smooth as silk and a real stump puller. I`ll trash these units immediatly. I wouldn`t want to be guilty of selling someone crap.......lol

Hillman,
Why a 400? You said unique but they look like a 350. Who's to know unless you tell them? If mileage is your bag get a 305 with TPI. Looks trick, runs great, and with the right set up you can get close to 30 mpg on the highway.
Much easier to find than a 350 or 400 these days and cheaper too.
