dropped axle

I would like to put a 4" dropped axle in my '38 Ford, using
the stock spring and spindles. What problems am I going to run into? Will I have to modify my tie rods? I'm also going to split the wisbone to accommodate a 350 trans. Will this cause
any problems?
Thanks, K. Stocker

Tack, several years ago I put a 4in dropped axle in my 40 Ford coupe. I bought everything from Chassis Enginnering out of West Branch Iowa. You will have to put lowered steering control arms onto the spindles. They have those also, just cut the old ones off and bolt on the new lowered ones. When you split the wishbone, spread it as little as possible, just enough to clear the tranny. If I remember correctly (sometimes thats hard to do), you will have to shorten the tie rod a little, not a problem. I also removed a few leafs from the original front springs and put teflon between the leafs. Once the car was on the road, it drove straight as an arrow. I also converted my steering gear box. A Saginaw unit from a 60 something Chevelle.
