Does anyone know of a current manfacturer who makes a custom steering wheel that is chrome? Not alluminum.

I had a Lecarra on my Ford and absolutely LOVED it. In my opinion, the steering wheel can make or break the look of the interior. The steering wheel is one of the first things you notice when you look inside a rod. A cheap looking sterring wheel makes the whole interior look cheap. Lecarra has some great looking designs. Spend as much as you can afford on it. You won't regret it.

I agree the 'just right look' is a must. My hot rod is nearing completion, and I've been looking for along time for a steel chrome plated wheel with a good heafty smooth rim, and if I get any choice, I'd like the center to be something near retro or deco style. As this (in chrome) along with my chrome Ididit column is the only shinney thing inside, the majority of the interior is mono tone and not much else to even have chromed.
Billet Specialties has a design that's almost perfect but it's alluminum, I asked if they could chrome plate it...
their response is not printable, so I'll keep looking..

I'm a huge fan of chrome plating myself. Is it possible to have this Billet Specialties wheel plated? I'm going to my plater on Monday to take him some Christmas cookies, I'll ask him if it's possible to plate aluminium and how much to do a steering wheel. I'll let ya know what he says.

So fill us in on what kind of hemi hot rod this steering wheel is going in. :)

You gotta do what I did, find a nice gal who thinks the hobby is neat, explain how important it is to have a Billet Specialties steering wheel, and wait till your Birthday. Of course I'm gonna marry her now, but thats besides the point.

why not polish that aluminum wheel? Mine shines just like chrome! As far as chroming aluminum, most processes use electric current to make the chrome stick to the copper underlay. So, it'd have to be dipped in a three step process and then chromed. I'm not certain that this would work with aluminum.

LOL, You don't miss nothing, do you?

I'm just going to assume that MrWillys was responding to OneHungrey. LOL You KNOW I don't go that way!!

My plater does an 8 step process including the 3 steps of copper, guarenteed for life. Ain't cheap, but if it will last you your lifetime.......some might be able to use it longer then others, Ha, Ha

The process is as follows
Chrome strip
Polish
Cyanide Copper
Acid Copper
Cooper Buff
Semi-bright Nickel
Bright Nickel
Chrome

Ya might think twice about a steel/chrome wheel. They get down right hot and the glare off them ain't too nice either . leather wraped is not that bad . RP peggys other half

Hey Denise, I hope you are sitting down when you get a price for chroming aluminum. It requires a multi-metal process.

We do it all the time for the pulleys and bracket kits that we have. It can be done, and there are many bike parts guys out there that do it too.

Make sure that they use SC3 or better specs or the chrome WILL wear off literally in your hands. The chemicals from your skin is corrosive to chrome.

Just my two sense.
